Gallery 19C The legacy of 19th century art
G
allery 19C is an international gallery focusing exclusively on the 19th century, one of the richest, most diverse 100 years in the history of art. This century witnessed an explosion of artistic styles and innovation, perhaps unrivaled in art history, still everything was deeply rooted in traditional art instruction. The artists “paid their dues” – some such as William Bouguereau or Jean Léon Gérôme made the choice to paint in the traditional way, while other artists ranging from Delacroix and Courbet to the French Impressionists chose not to. “At Gallery 19C, we believe that the 19th century is poised for a much-deserved reevaluation, after almost 80 years in obscurity due to the obsession with Impressionism and other forms of modern and contemporary art. As a gallery, our goal is to offer the best works by the most significant artists from the period and to introduce collectors, both old and new, to the quality, the variety and the diversity of what the 19th century has to offer.”
