Home of visionary artistic projects

n the 1980s, Ursula Hauser, co-founder and director of a family retail business in Switzerland, developed an interest in contemporary art and began acquiring modern masters, which turned into a true passion. In 1992, the art collector, her son-in-law Iwan Wirth and her daughter Manuela founded Hauser & Wirth, a gallery based in Zurich. “The niche for us was artists who were making more complicated work, work that needed support, that was highly important but not commercially successful. A lot of the artists we take on don’t have a market — our job is to build it.”

F amily-owned and operated, GAD Art & Fabrication is an artisanal and luxury metal fabrication studio that focuses on creating unique works of art, handcrafted furniture and architectural elements. With over 35 years of experience in the metal industry, founder Gonzalo Algarate has been producing outstanding sculptural pieces for interior designers, architects, furniture designers, artists, high-end real estate contractors and art advisors. Native to Uruguay, he first learned the art of sculpting, lost-wax process and bronze patinas and finishes with sculptor Robert Graham. It was at Graham’s studio that he perfected his handle on welding, patination of metals and metal forming, working on various civic monuments, including the Monument to Joe Louis, the Duke Ellington Memorial and The Great Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Branching out into metal fabrication in 1997, Algarate started creating custom handcrafted furniture and architectural pieces. Some of those ended up in the homes of Will Smith, Joel Silver, Kelsey Grammer, Eli Broad, Peter Morton, James Turrell and at the Gagosian Gallery. In 2018, Algarate started collaborating with artist Brad Howe and opened GAD Art & Fabrication, along with his two children, Daniella and Marcelo. As a graduate student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Daniella uses her knowledge of the curatorial process to evaluate new designs and unite aesthetics and utility. Marcelo, who studied graphic design, creates 3D renderings and is also involved in the fabrication process, focusing on welding, perfecting the art of patina and creating artistic metal finishes. Whether they are building a three-inch bronze figure or a 4-ton monument, Gonzalo, Daniella and Marcelo are committed to delivering the highest level of craftsmanship. “We are consistent and detail-oriented, and our finishes are refined and delicate.” Known for their immediate approach to problem-solving, the family enjoys tackling the most challenging projects. ince 2019, chef Yasuhisa Ouchi offers a unique omakase experience in Beverly Hills. At the age of 17, chef Ouchi, an Osaka native, started learning the art of sushi. After exploring interests in art and graphic communication, he returned to his passion and perfected his culinary skills in contemporary sushi and in Edomae — sushi made with fresh seafood caught near the Tokyo Bay. In 2010, he moved to Canada and opened a westernized sushi takeout restaurant in Toronto. In 2014, armed with experience and a firm belief in his ideology of a perfect sushi restaurant, chef Ouchi opened his first namesake location, Yasu, in downtown Toronto. As the first omakase sushi bar in Canada, it soon garnered critical acclaim and multiple awards. Following this success, he moved to Beverly Hills and opened his second restaurant.

Seasonal, elegant and artistic, Yasu’s cuisine incorporates the finest ingredients available, resulting in exquisite dishes like the Negi-Toro with Hokkaido uni and shiso flower; the Japanese monkfish liver sushi with shiso leaf, daikon and ponzu; and the 3-hour slow-cooked octopus. Experience authentic flavors through a daily-changing, 17-course tasting menu. YASU BEVERLY HILLS 265 S. Robertson Blvd Beverly Hills, CA 90211 +1 424 355 yasubeverlyhills.com0257

The chef’s philosophy is based on kimochi: “I put a lot of feeling and care into the dishes.” Paying homage to ancestral methods, he shares his passion for bringing out the essence of each ingredient: “I wanted to bring the Japanese Sea of Umami to LA.” In order to offer the best tasting experience to his guests, the chef imports fish exclusively from Japan: “We use very high-quality and rare fish that rivals any high-end sushi bar in Japan.”

The ultimate coffee experience S temming from a desire to recreate the European café experience, Caffe Luxxe is a small-batch coffee roaster with 7 locations across the Los Angeles area. A concept developed in 2006 by entrepreneurs Mark Wain and Gary Chau, well-traveled, long-time friends who decided to leave the corporate world to create their own brand and offer a luxury experience to coffee aficionados. With the desire to control the entire process from farm to cup and to create sustainable practices with all their partners, they have built direct relationships with producers of the finest coffee beans: “Great coffee begins at the farm. Our relationships ensure that farmers are paid more than fair prices consistently year after year.”

Sourcing, roasting and crafting artisanal drinks to create a unique sensory experience, Caffe Luxxe offers more than fresh coffees. With a design influenced by Gary and Mark’s travels around Europe, their coffee shops aspire to connect the social creatures that we are, as we embrace a Paris or Milan-inspired lifestyle. With meticulously crafted blends that celebrate the aromas and flavors of expertly curated bean selections, and single origin coffees roasted to transport the senses to each terroir , Caffe Luxxe is the best destination to explore coffee culture. To complete the experience, Mark and Gary also developed a unique collection of their own branded product lines created entirely in house, such as The Original Coffee Kombucha — mixing healthy probiotics with energizing coffee, a dark chocolate bar that incorporates their signature Montenero coffee blend, and a collection of bath and body products infused with antioxidant-rich green coffee extract, inspired by the spirit and distinctive scents of the Italian countryside.

Artisanal almond creations A bout 80% of the world’s almond supply come from California. Being both a gourmet delicacy and a nutrientdense food, the almond provided Michael and Jun Sanders the inspiration to create LUPHIA and SPIRIT Almond. In 2017, Jun, who was born in Japan, and Michael, who spent his teenage and early adult years there, discovered a passion for artisanal luxury sweets and launched LUPHIA, a brand based on the Omiyage culture — Japan’s unique gift-giving tradition which often involves local food specialties: “The almond was the perfect fit to create a signature California gift.” Serving celebrity and executive clients by special order, LUPHIA, whose Milk Chocolate Almond Toffee recently won the Gold Award in the International Chocolate Awards’ World Final competition, only sells their exclusive, locally crafted sweets to the general public once a year during the Winter holiday season via their online shop. In 2021, the couple decided to expand their line of artisanal almond products. On a mission to create the ultimate iterations of California almonds, they launched SPIRIT Almond, a plant-based, wellness savory brand focusing on delicate, healthy snacks. Their dry-roasted almonds are subtly enhanced with authentic Japanese flavors such as miso, seaweed, koji salt and black garlic. Enough to get health-conscious people hooked on a delectable snack.
