OBJECTIVES • TO UTILIZE THE EXPERTISE OF THE HIGH PERFORMING FACULTY MEMBERS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE IN PLANNING AND EXECUTING THE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS UNDER VARIOUS GLOBAL PROJECTS. • TO ASSESS THE FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS IN THE SOUTH ASISN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT. • TO DEVELOP GUIDELINES FOR REPLICATION IN OTHER INSTITUTES TO UNDERTAKE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT.


RESEARCH METHODOLOGY • A NATURALISTIC EVALUATION PROCESS AS ADVOCATED BY GUBA HAS BEEN ADOPTED. • A SET OF THIRTY HIGH PERFORMING FACULTY HAVE BEEN CONSULTED AND THE FACTORS THAT ENABLED THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS HAS BEEN STUDIED • THE FACTORS SELECTED ARE: - NATURE OF THE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT - FACULTY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT - RESOURCES NEEDED FOR THE PROJECT - PLANNING AND EVALUATING THE DRAFT TRAINING PROGRAM - CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS


SOUTH ASIAN FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (ADB) FOR CTEVT, KATHMANDU, NEPAL • FACULTY DEVELOPMENT IN AGRICULTURE RELATED AREAS LIKE AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY MAINTENANCE, FRUIT PROCESSING, DIARY TECHNOLOGY, FISHERIES, ANIMAL HEALTH • ELECTRONICS RELATED AREAS: VIDEO PRODUCTION, COMPUTER SOFTWARE, COMPUTER HARDWARE AND INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS • HOTEL MANAGEMENT RELATED AREAS LIKE FRONT OFFICE MAINTENANCE AND CONTINENTAL FOOD PRODUCTION. • MISCELLANEOUS AREAS: SKILL TESTING, SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY HEALTH


UNDP SPONSORED PROJECT FOR BHUTAN • ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS AND MANAGERIAL COMPETENCIES OF THE FACULTY MEMBERS OF ROYAL BHUTAN POLYTECHNIC AND ROYAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE • PLANNING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND LEARNING AIDS FOR THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT CENTER • PREPARING THE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS WHICH ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS THROUGH VARIOUS BILATERAL SCHEMES • DEVELOPING A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE GROWTH OF THE HUMAN CAPITAL AND THE REQUIRED INSTITUTES.


UNESCO SPONSORED SCHEME FOR NEPAL • TRAINING OF THE FACULTY MEMBERS IN BIOCHEMISTRY • ESTABLISHING A LAB IN THE VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE


METHODOLOGY ADOPTED FACULTY DEVELOPMENT • REVIEW THE REVISED CURRICULUM OF THE CLIENT INSTITUTES • VISIT THE CLIENT INSTITUTES AND STUDY THE RESOURCES, EQUIPMENT AND LIBRARY • ASSESS THE EXISTING SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES OF THE PROPOSED FACULTY • PLAN FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS BASED THE NEED ANALYSIS • COLLABORATE WITH THE SPECIALIST INSTITUTES/ UNIVERSITIES WHEREVER INSTITUTE IS NOT HAVING SPECIALISTS • DISCUSS THE DRAFT CURRICULUM FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SPECIALIST INSTITUTES AND PREPARE THE FINAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN


IMPLEMENTATION SCHEME • SUBMIT THE TRAINING PROGRAM TO CLIENTS • CHOOSE THE ADVISORS WHO ARE QUALIFIED INTERDISCIPLINARY FACULTY DEVELOPERS • INVITE THE TRAINEES IN CONSULTATION WITH THE SPECIALIST INSTITUTES • PLACE THEM AFTER DISCUSSING THE TRAINING SCHEME, METHOD OF TRAINING AND WORK SCHEDULE • MONITOR AND CONDUCT MONTHLY PROGRESS MEETING WITH THE TRAINEES AND THEIR TRAINERS • DISCUSS WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CLIENT INSTITUTES • MODIFY THE TRAINING PROGRAM WHEREVER NEEDED


ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF TRAINING IN THE CLIENT INSTITUTES • A TEAM OF FACULTY DEVELOPERS VISITED CLIENT INSTITUTES IN NEPAL • DISCUSSED THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE TRAINEES AND COLLECTED FEEDBACK FROM THE HEADS OF THE INSTITUTES, HEADS OF DEPARTMENTS AND THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO GOT BENEFIT OF EXTENSION OF SERVICES • PREPARED THE IMPACT REPORT AND PRESENTED TO THE PROJECT AUTHORITIES


CONCLUSION • THE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT CENTERS AROUND INTERDISCIPLINARY AREAS. • THE COMPETENT FACULTY CAN ASSESS THE TRAINING NEEDS AND PREPARE A DETAILED TRAINING PROGRAM. • THE SERVICE OF THE SPECIALISTS INSTITUTES CAN BE AVAILED BASED THE WELL PLANNED TRAINING PROGRAM. • THE SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA IS ESSENTIAL FOR UNDERTAKING FOREIGN FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS. • THERE IS A NEED FOR MOTIVATED INTERDISCIPLINARY FACULTY MEMBERS. • THE INSTITUTE SHOULD HAVE APPROPRIATE ACADEMIC ECOSYSTEM • THE INSTITUTE SHOULD HAVE SUPPORTING LEADERSHIP.
