Spaceport Camden: Mission Possible

Page 25

EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY SPACEPORT OPERATIONS, associated companies and organizations, and the workforce have the opportunity to inspire, inform, and benefit students at the elementary through high school level and beyond with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs such as internships, mentorships, job shadowing, career introductions, and financial support such as scholarships, fellowships, and grants. The broader Camden County and surrounding communities could benefit from similar interactions through high-tech job fairs, lecture series, science and engineering demonstrations and fairs, model rocket launches, and other STEM programs open to the public. Area elementary, middle, and high schools could be inspired to create STEM-based programs such as space-related student projects, aerospace course offerings, and STEM certifications.

SPACEFLIGHT TRAINING SPACEPORT CAMDEN could offer the opportunity to train humans for spaceflight. Private spaceflight tourism programs and facilities could be created near the spaceport to educate, train, and prepare private individuals for future suborbital or orbital space travel opportunities.

WELCOMING VISITORS AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT EDUCATIONAL AND ENTERTAINMENT tourism opportunities at and near the spaceport are extensive. Facilities and programs could include a spaceport visitor’s center, a museum focused on space science and local high-tech history and activities, handson science and engineering demonstrations, space camps for children, and other opportunities for the local community and visiting public.
