HOW DOES THE CHAMBER WORK? The President and the staff operate within the framework of budgets and policies established by the Board of Directors, and are responsible for the business management of the Chamber. All policies, programs and activities are the responsibility of the Board of Directors acting on recommendations made by various committees. Present committees are: Government Affairs, Membership, Events & Activities, Public Relations and Promotions, Small Business Committee and Crime Prevention. Additional representation is always needed on these committees and all Chamber members are encouraged to participate. WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER? Any person, company, corporation or civic organization interested in the welfare of the County of Kaua‘i may become a member by making written application and by paying the appropriate annual dues upon approval by the Membership Committee. HOW IS THE CHAMBER FUNDED? The Chamber has a dues schedule based on the number of employees represented by each of its member organizations. This dues schedule makes up about 50% of the Chamber’s funding. The other 50% is funded through an Annual Silent Auction Fund-raiser and various programs, events, and educational activities sponsored by the Chamber. OTHER PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES The Chamber staff answers hundreds of letters, telephone calls and inquiries
on a variety of subjects concerning Kaua‘i. The Chamber helps law enforcement through its Crime Stoppers Program that provides cash incentives for information leading to the arrest of criminals. The Chamber provides every Kaua‘i business person with an opportunity to voice their opinion concerning legislation, taxes, civic affairs and other important economic matters. COMMUNICATION WITH ITS MEMBERS The Chamber, in partnership with The Garden Island and Chamber member advertisers has a Chamber Page outlining current events and programs of interest to members. Once each quarter, a general membership meeting is held at which the President/CEO reports on the Chamber’s activities. Quarterly meetings feature a speaker on a subject of current community interest. E-communication is forwarded to members informing them of the latest “Chamber Alert” concerning legislative bills, Chamber events, as well as the weekly email blast ‘News You Could Use’, that covers information from other chamber members of their own events and activities.
BENEFITS & SERVICES LEGISLATIVE/BUSINESS ADVOCACY Legislative efforts on behalf of the business community. Work toward a better business climate, workers comp reform, privatization, taxation and health care regulation are some of our priorities for this current year.
CHAMBER ROUNDTABLE Monthly meetings with the Mayor and County Council are held to discuss business issues and concerns. BUSINESS REFERRAL SERVICE All inquiries are referred to member businesses unless there is no member in that particular field. DIRECTORY LISTING Our Membership Directory is printed with each member having a complimentary directory listing, both alphabetical & categorical. We currently distribute 2500 of these directories throughout Kaua‘i and abroad annually. An electronic version is also available on our website for visitors and new residents to review on-line, download, print and utilize.

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT The tournament raises funds for scholarship programs and for graduating seniors from Kaua‘i’s Public High Schools and Independent Schools and a graduate from Kaua‘i Community College.
