Pompey returned to winning ways in style with a deserved victory over promotion rivals Charlton at The Valley.

Albie Morgan clipped the top of the bar for the hosts, but the Blues took control from that point, with John Marquis coming close to breaking the deadlock on three occasions.

Instead it was Michael Jacobs who made the breakthrough, arrowing the ball into the top corner after Tom Naylor had slipped it into his path.

The Addicks hit back following the interval, as Jayden Stockley headed home an Andrew Shinnie corner against his former club.

Ellis Harrison was immediately denied by a fine Ben Amos save, but Naylor restored the lead by rising to convert Marcus Harness’ free-kick.

Andy Cannon then opened his goalscoring account for the season to wrap things up, stealing the ball from Ben Watson and finding the net off the inside of the post.
