COMMUNITY COACHING CONTINUES IN SCHOOLS
Pompey in the Community (PitC) coaches have been keeping busy during the latest lockdown by visiting primary schools around the local area to support teaching staff by providing PE and sport lessons for the children of key workers.
They are currently attending Mayfield School, Meon Junior School and Northern Junior School, engaging with pupils from Year R to Year 6, delivering a range of both physical sports and sport-based classroom activities.
Teachers at all of the schools have said the children are loving the sessions being organised by the PitC coaches. The youngsters are spending all morning in their seats, so the opportunity to get active is a welcome release.
Remaining physically active greatly benefits their mental health, while playing organised games with the coaches means they are being cared for in the best possible way.
Dan Williamson, PitC’s assistant head of curriculum and delivery, said: “The small number of children still attending schools have loved taking part in sporting sessions with our coaches.
“It’s also brilliant that we can allow the teachers to have a short break, as they have been working tirelessly to ensure their pupils – those in school and at home – don’t miss out on any of their vital education.
“A huge ‘well done’ to all of our staff for having such a positive impact within the city during these strange times.”
Pompey in the Community would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all the schools who have continued to show us commitment and support throughout these unprecedented times. If any schools would like to find out more about how we can provide support, then please email
