Where can College take you?

GUIDANCE

The College has a dedicated and experienced careers and higher education advisor who is available to support and guide our students as they prepare for their next step after leaving Henley. This support includes help with career exploration, university application, job and apprenticeship search and application, gap years and work experience alongside visiting speakers from industry and higher education.

HIGHER EDUCATION

Each year around 70% of our students continue on to higher education and recent statistics show that students progressing to university from The Henley College outperform those from other state sixth forms. Our students gain sought-after places at universities both nationally and internationally, including Russell Group institutions and Oxbridge. We believe that The Henley College provides an excellent stepping stone to university by developing the independent learning skills, confidence and resilience required to flourish at degree level.

CAREERS

Some students prefer to enter employment straightaway when they leave College. Destinations range from full-time roles spanning a wide range of industries to places on in-demand training schemes with leading organisations. We aim to equip all of our students with the skills they require to succeed at interview and beyond. After College our students have gone on to secure roles with employers including British Airways, Formula 1, KPMG, Channel 5, the Civil Service, Citroen, Mars UK, Microsoft, the NHS, National Grid, Simpson Associates, the police force and Volvo.

HIGHER LEVEL APPRENTICESHIPS

Our students have also succeeded in securing high level apprenticeships on leaving Henley with companies such as Cisco, O2 and Rolls Royce.

Molly

Student Profile

Molly achieved A*A*A* in A Level Geography, Photography and English Literature. “I’m extremely pleased with my results and I will be progressing to the University of Oxford to study English Language and Literature, then I will possibly proceed to a career in journalism. The best thing about studying at The Henley College was the close relationship I had with my teachers, who were always helping me push myself and stay focused on my goals. Their passion for their subjects has always inspired me to be a better student. They always supported me, even when I asked a thousand questions, and would teach lessons in a way that always kept me interested and inquisitive.”

Molly came to The Henley College from The Embrook School in Wokingham.

Dr Joanna Atkinson

Oxbridge Coordinator

“For the past fifteen years, in my role as designated Oxbridge Co-ordinator, I’ve prepared students for application to Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. I’ve developed a comprehensive programme offering information and support throughout the two years of students’ college courses including: monthly bulletins (advertising such outreach activities as subject masterclasses, college/ departmental open days, residential courses, competitions), and regular email contact with individual students and their parents. Specific support is provided during the actual application process, refining of the crucial Personal Statement, co-ordination of the subject-tutors’ reports into the main UCAS academic reference, preparation for the tests and written work which many subjects at Oxford and Cambridge now require before applicants are short-listed for interview, and focus on the interview itself. We’re very proud of our Oxbridge Programme and hope those new students interested in finding out more about what’s involved with making an Oxbridge application will take advantage of all we have to offer when they start their course at The Henley College!”
