t The Great Yorkshire Show in July, Northern Area members achieved remarkable results, many in the rosettes and winning five of the classes. Congratulations to T & F MacTaggart, Rascarrel Flock, winning Supreme Champion. Following the showing on the Tuesday evening, Northern Area hosted a barbeque. This was very well supported by Texel breeders from all areas. In August, John Howard kindly presented us his “Quercus” Texels, for our club flock visit. Our members toured around his new farm at Battersby, Great Hayton and then enjoyed a barbeque and social. Northern Areas 30th Anniversary Club Sale was held at CCM Auctions Skipton, in September. Frank Rushton, Fresh Fields Texels, from Matlock, Derbyshire judged the show. Overall Champion went to a new member, Mr Philip Makin of Chop Gate, with his Shearling Ram ”William Beck Royal Flush”, a “Llangwym Noddy” son. Lifting the leading price tag for the sale was Stuart Currie’s Beautry Flock with his shearling ewe at £4,100 gns. Overall Champion – Phillip Makin with ”William Beck Royal Flush”, 30th Anniversary Class Winners – Judge Frank Rushton

Our second ram sale in September held at Leyburn Auction Mart was sponsored by Agri Lloyd and judged by Eric Blacklock, Catterick Garrison. Graham Taylor with his Shearling ram took first place in his class and Champion. Our Annual dinner was held again at Anchor Inn, Whixley, in November. The evening was very well supported. Results and presentations were made to our Flock Competition winners,Yorkshire Show

highest placed members and the winner of the Show Point Trophy. This year’s winner of the “Show Points Trophy” was R Newby, from Walshford Bridge, Wetherby. Mr Newby had attended nearly half of our qualifying shows through out the showing season. His top class ewe took numerous breed championships. The flock competition was judged by Peter Longdin (Wellingley Flock). Thank you to Peter who gave up his time to travel to our area to visit members. Mrs Jennifer Aiken, Coniston Flock took Overall Champion and was presented with the Kissthorn Trophy. For full results see page 212. Chief Executive John Yates was invited by the club to give a talk. This focused on how to market and promote the Texel breed and the benefits of recording. It was followed by supper and some lively discussions and again well attended. Our winter sale of females was held at CCM Auctions, Skipton. Mr David Burkill, Beechtree Flock, judged the classes. Mr Burkill presented Female Champion to Mr Stuart Currie, Beautry Flock and reserve to Mrs A Nairy, Meinspride Flock. A solid sale, with an average selling price for shearling ewes of £485 Champion – Mr S Currie Reserve Champion - Mrs A Nairey Finally, we wish you all a very successful 2012 Sarah Beachell Secretary Overall Champion Phillip Makin with ”William Beck Royal Flush”
