CHAPTER 05 – TANATA WHENUA Explains the place of Tūhoe: Te Urewera is the homeland of Tūhoe. Te Urewera continues to be the source of inspiration for their culture, language and identity, the two being inseparable. Tūhoe permanency, kaitiakitana and mana motuhake relies on that connection with Te Urewera. In Te Kawa, Tanata Whenua explains the place and obligations which in understanding the kawa of a marae distinguish the tanata whenua, and the responsibilities that flow from it, through this a relationship is formed between the marae and the tanata whenua. Here we explain the relationship of Tūhoe with Te Urewera, describing obligations owed by Tūhoe to Te Urewera. CHAPTER 06 – TE AO Explains the space for shared Experiences together: We believe Te Urewera offers opportunity to facilitate livelihood and lifestyles. There is always provision to design a set of experiences uniquely Te Urewera. Te Urewera and tanata whenua recognise the service of old friends who have earned advantage and welcomes the contribution from new friends. In the same way, through Te Ao, Tūhoe welcome shared experiences which allow learning to be shared both ways. With responsibilities in check, the benefits of Te Urewera are explored measured within disciplined constraints. CHAPTER 07 – WHAKAIRI WHARE Explains the formality of practice: Respectful interactions with Te Urewera can be realised through many pathways, each bringing a consideration to the daily communication of standards expected and as established within Te Urewera Act and Te Kawa o Te Urewera. Similarly, we describe the machinery and policy framework necessary to achieve collective will to the way we deliver on our responsibility, healing the impact caused by our lifestyle uses, actively supporting the health and resilience of the living system of Te Urewera.
