Art Reach

I like art because you get to use paint and draw some cool stuff. And you get messy. I really liked learning to blend the colors for the background with my hands. I want to learn how to draw something that is 3D…. like a soccer ball in the air coming at you.”

VOICE

"The VOICE program at Teton High School welcomed me with compassion and kindness when I moved to Teton Valley after experiencing the hardest year of my life."

Bree Clegg VOICE Mentor and Senior at Teton High School

“The VOICE program here at Teton High School has had an incredible impact on my life, and it changed my life for the better. My freshman year I did not attend THS, but I went to two different high schools. That was the hardest year of my life. My mom went through a divorce that turned my entire family upside down. It was a really hard year for all of us. I attended two high schools that year and absolutely hated both. I couldn’t stand to be at school because I felt like an outsider in the school’s already set-instone community, I felt

like I wouldn’t ever be able to grow or get past that dark stage in life. “Then, the summer before my sophomore year my family moved to Teton Valley. Once again, I was so upset. This would be my third high school and I was so nervous because I wasn’t even sure how I would be able to get past the first day. I thought my experience at THS would be the same I previously had experienced. I had absolutely no motivation to try to be involved in the school. That was until I walked into the front doors. “That was a moment that I will never forget. I walked in so incredibly upset and overwhelmed. The entire school was in the foyer picking up their new schedules, and I stood there completely dumbfounded. Then, a girl named Olivia (who was a member of VOICE at the time) walked up to me. She noticed that I was new, and

she came and asked me for my name and made sure I knew where to go and what to do. “While I still was unsure about being at a new school, that experience completely reshaped my outlook on THS. I saw it differently already, because being shown that welcoming compassion and kindness from a peer at a high school is not something that I had experienced previously. Even though I wasn’t a freshman transitioning into high school, the VOICE program impacted my life from the instant I entered the school and is the reason I believe so wholeheartedly in the program, because it does make a difference. It's a big thing that sets Teton apart and creates a safe and welcoming environment for those going through such a hard and uncomfortable time when starting a new school.” ~ Bree Clegg

CLASS ROOM GRANTS

“Classroom Grants Positively Impact Every Student in our District”

Rose Hendricks Educator, Teton High School

“Thanks to the generosity of TVEF donors and the teacher grants program, my students have had the unique opportunity to participate in the Teton County Model United Nations (TCMUN). This experience opens students' minds to global challenges, and allows them to craft collaborative solutions to those challenges. This opportunity would not be available to my students without teacher grants.”

15 GRANTS GIVEN OUT

~ Rose Hendricks

Each year, the Teton Valley Education Foundation provides teachers three opportunities to apply for funding to take learning beyond the text books or purchase books and equipment for their classroom. This year TVEF funded $15,000 worth of grants to purchase the following: • Teton High School: materials for the Robotics Program, hosting the Shakespeare Festival, sending high school students to the HOBY Leadership Seminar, a Microsoft surface tablet for developing multidimensional interactive presentations, and debate training at the University of Utah • Teton Middle School: IPads for the TMS Student Council and IPads for the video editing class

• Driggs Elementary School: Electronic books for the elementary schools and supplies for Family Science Night • Victor Elementary School: IPads to teach kindergarten students digital publishing and Mindfulness training for teachers • TSD After School Program: taking students to the Teton Rock Gym

• Rendezvous Upper Elementary School: library books for fourth and fifth graders, a tower garden, sponsoring the Teton Raptor Program

2680 Funding for Classroom Grants is raised through our Ride and Dine and Shop for Schools fundraisers.

Behind every musical performance is a bevy of costs and activities. Hiring musicians, paying for instruments, securing a location, advertising, insuring the performance or venue, printing the program, mailing out invitations….the list goes on. The same is true with successful nonprofits. The Teton Valley Education Foundation has one, half-time staff person who oversees all of our nine programs, fundraisers, grant writing, community outreach and marketing efforts in our valley. And thanks to the Teton School District, we have another year of free office space which reduces our annual operating costs.

Hearing & Vision Screening

Making sure students succeed starts with the basics…

Can they see? Can they hear? Each year, the Teton Valley Education Foundation spends one week performing hearing and vision screening of all K-3 elementary school students, 7th grade students at Teton Middle School and 11th grade students at Teton High School. This program is a partnership between the TVEF, Teton School District and the Idaho and Eastern Oregon Lion’s Sight and Hearing Foundation. This year, we were able to screen approximately 775 students for hearing and 622 students for vision.

EYEGLASSES PROGRAM

BACKPACKS FOR SCHOOLS

The Teton Valley Education Foundation provides eyeglasses for children in need. Students are identified through the vision screening, referred by teachers or selfidentify themselves to our counselors. Dr. Simmons at Teton Valley Vision Center provides a free exam and the TVEF raises funds to pay for the eyeglasses.

Backpacks full of school supplies are the difference between blending In and standing out for our students.

FUNDERS: Teton Valley Vision Center, Community Foundation of Teton Valley and The Gettling Family Trust

Critical Needs Program

The Teton Valley Education Foundation organized a backpack and school supply drive for children in need. Thanks to a great community partnership, 68 children went to school with backpacks full of school supplies. These students were able to join their peers in filling up their lockers with the much needed materials for all their classes. These backpacks were handed out to students through our local Subs for Santa organization that works with low income families in our area.
