block printing Create bespoke tea towels, using a sponge for a stamp and your imagination for the pattern. You will need Pen; kitchen sponges; scissors; fabric paint; plain cotton tea towels.

Step 1 Using a pen, draw your chosen shape on the sponge. You’ll need one sponge per shape. To produce the geometric effect pictured, go for simple squares, circles, rectangles and triangles.

Step 2 Cut around your outline, until you’re left with the desired shape. Leave a larger part at the top to grip.

These tea towels make a great gift – try personalising them with the recipient’s initials or a special date

Step 3 Dip the sponge in the fabric paint, making sure all the edges are covered, before pressing it carefully onto the tea towel. You may need to repeat this a few times initially until the sponge soaks up the paint evenly. Repeat until the tea towel is filled with different shapes and colours. Keep the formation random or try printing the shapes in a zig-zag pattern. Step 4 Following the guidelines on the fabric paint, leave to dry. If the edges still aren’t neat enough for you, perfect them using a fabric pen or small paint brush. Finally, if instructed by the brand of fabric paint you’re using, seal the paint with an iron.
