FREE FRUIT FOR KIDS More than 78 million pieces of fruit have been given out for free in over 800 stores since 2016. Bananas come top in popularity, followed by apples, then oranges.

HEALTHIER OWN-BRAND More than 2,000 own-brand products – including yogurt, cereal and ready meals – have been changed to reduce the amount of sugar, fat and salt. > Ûã ÷ c Û É Á 㨠Ûã supermarket to reformulate its own-brand soft drinks to contain less than 5g sugar per 100ml. The result? More than nine billion calories cut from customers’ annual diets.

Right now, there are some really creative plant-based solutions for vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. ‘We’re leading the market in innovation, showcasing the amazing things we can do with plants,’ says Derek Sarno, Tesco’s director of plant-based innovation and 32

founder of the Wicked Kitchen range. ‘We focus on the quality of the ingredients and the craft of cooking them well.’ The range now includes more than 40 products, including salads, sandwiches, snacks and desserts, which all feature creative alternatives to dairy and meat. With the Chinese BBQ Shreds & Greens meal (above), the team has developed a method of ‘pulling’ eryngii mushrooms to produce a texture that’s similar to pulled pork.
