Love Your Home! Do a Fire Risk Assessment Every year, increasingly people are injured or die because of fire. As of this year, fire is one of the top reasons for the increasing mortality rate all over the world. Other than the lives that it takes, it is also of the reasons for damaged properties that sometimes lead to the loss of the business. But there is no need to be victimized by this monstrous blaze because there are methods to make any home or building safe from fire. There's a lot fires that can definitely be avoided or be minimized and it is as simple as adhering to several fire precautions like performing a Fire Risk Assessment or by having Fire Safety Equipments like the Fire extinguisher. The first thing that you need to check when performing a Fire Risk Assessment is to make sure that there is a fire extinguisher in your home. Make sure that it is placed in areas like the kitchen, garage & the bedroom because these are the areas where fire usually begins. Also, check if everyone knows where these extinguishers can be found or better yet, put a sticker on the cabinet door to tell the people that the fire extinguisher is there. Another thing with regards to fire extinguishers, make sure that everybody knows how to operate the extinguisher if ever there is a fire. The next thing that you should check is if there is a fire alarm or smoke detector within the area of the kitchen, bedrooms and hallways. If the alarms are battery operated, it is important that you check on it every time in order to know whether the batteries need changing or not.


See if all the flammables materials in the house are stored in cabinet. This will prevent the materials from being near heated appliances and out of reach of the babies. Also, make sure that the cabinet is fire proof and well ventilated to keep away from fumes from building up in the cabinet. As part of the Fire Risk Assessment, check on the people living in the house or building if everyone knows where the fire exits are. As simple as this may sound, it is important that everybody knows this because at the event that a fire emergency occurs, people tend to panic & forget how they will get out. Lastly, to complete your Fire Risk Assessment, prepare a fire escape plan if ever there is a fire. Know where to go, what to do, where to meet up and how to get the kids out if the fire gets out of control. Practicing a fire drill can go a long way in ensuring that everybody will be safe in the coursework of a fire. It is important that homeowners or building owners take the reasonable steps to make the structure safe from fire and to reduce the risk of fire from occurring. It is also your responsibility to make sure that everybody in the house or building can escape in case there is a fire.
