TEACHING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS
Profiling Our Asb Class
Associated Student Body, or ASB as it is called on campus, is a class made up of seniors who take great pride in their school and the spirit on campus. They are the student government on campus, and represent the many needs of our students in all that we do.
They are most often seen at school-wide rallies, dances and organizing spirit weeks - but the class is about so much more than that. It’s about leadership and teaching the next generation of our community leaders.
Whatever our students decide to pursue after they leave Cardinal Newman, we know that they will need these highly curated leadership skills to help navigate their roles in their professions, communities and in their lives. They will take the SPIRIT they have learned how to foster here on the Newman campus out into the community where they will continue to make a difference. Ms. Wilson who has been teaching the ASB class at Newman for two years says that the best part of ASB is, “the students are empowered to make leadership decisions, and to learn the process necessary to ensure decisions are followed through.”
Each of our 25 ASB students is unique and special in their own way - but together they appreciate their position of leadership among the student body. “This particular ASB class of 2023 has high aspirations for setting the bar for the senior trip and they have worked incredibly hard to make the rallies unique and fun.”
They are a deeply caring group - who truly embody our Newman Spirit.
“ASB is special because it exists for the student body, and is run by the student body. It is an opportunity to use our experience to make the school even better for years to come.”
Julia Simon, Senior
“I love ASB because it allows me to help make Newman a better school. Making an impact on the freshmen and the future ASB classes also means a lot to me just so they can reflect on our ideas and carry on what we leave behind for future years to come and make Newman an overall better school.”
Severo Poueu, Senior
“I think ASB has set me up for success after graduation because it taught me how to levelheadedly make decisions and talk to my peers as well as adults.”
Mia Do, Senior
“ASB will set me up for success after graduation by giving me an idea to what my future could look like. I know I have experience on how to deal with conflict, the the importance of organization, communication and planning ahead.”
Julia Brunetti, Senior
