PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE W

What often draws people to Cardinal Newman High School is SPIRIT.

Spirit is found in the pride and enthusiasm our students have for their school and school community. It is found in the people of Newman, their relationships, and the feeling of belonging that brings us together, encourages us to put aside differences, and purposefully serve and celebrate each other and our greater community.

Outwardly, we experience such Spirit at rallies, sporting events, arts performances, and acknowledging academic achievement. Internally, we experience Spirit as expressed through Faith and inspired by the connection we have to God and each other through our school’s patron, St. John Henry Newman. This is captured best in Newman’s motto, Cor ad Cor Loquitur. St. Newman believed that in prayer we speak to God heart to heart (in Latin: Cor ad Cor Loquitor = Heart speaks to Heart). His Cor ad Cor spirituality also extends to those we encounter in everyday life. Following St. Newman, we believe the heart is the source for all thinking, willing, and feeling. We witness this Spirit in our caring relationships, our student retreats, our morning prayers, and in our students’ many remarkable Christian Service projects.

Witnessing God’s Love and Spirit working in the lives of our students is one of the most profound joys we experience on our campus.

As we head into a new calendar year, I would also like to celebrate the generosity and philanthropy that was expressed for Cardinal Newman High School this last year. We would not be able to offer the Newman Experience we do today to our more than 525 students without the generous support of so many of you. In 2021 alone more than $1.3M was raised to support our operating budget. These funds are used to bolster our tuition assistance programs, to offer our teachers competitive salaries and benefits, to enhance our campus and facilities, and to provide student programs that are stellar examples of a Catholic college prep environment.

Please enjoy this combined version of Trinity, containing our Newman school magazine and our 2021 / 2022 Annual Report. Together these two pieces showcase the Newman Spirit and tell the story of how that Spirit is manifested in our students, in our alumni who are making a difference in the world, and in our donors and benefactors who make all this possible.

As we look to the future we will be guided by our community-driven strategic plan that will allow us to continue offering the Cardinal Newman experience to countless future students. In God’s Love and His Spirit, we grow.

Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of our Newman SPIRIT.

In Christ,

Dr. Linda Norman President, Cardinal Newman
