After the launch of the National School Rugby Championship in Ambanja on 19th, 20th and 21st May, Terres en Mêlées and Malagasy Rugby went to Fianarantsoa for the second stage of this great sporting event. Four regions of southern Madagascar were represented by teams of high school students. Tulear and Antananarivo will receive the next steps before the national final at Malacam Stadium on June 25th.

Fianarantsoa hosted on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th the 8 teams of the South of Madagascar selected for the regional tournament of the National Championship of School Rugby. After long journeys, the teams of Vatovavy fitovinany, High Mahatsiatra, Atsimo Atsinanana and Amoron'i Mania met to share great emotions for a whole weekend. On Friday 26, the teams got to know each other around songs and dances. Then, they participated in a workshop on the values of rugby, the rules of the game and the principles of refereeing. The tournament is a great opportunity for young people to meet high school students from different regions and benefit from training on rugby co-animated by Terres en Mêlées and Malagasy Rugby. Saturday 27 May was the big day for the students of the regions selected for the tournament of the South axis in Fianarantsoa, second stage of the Championship. After a colorful Carnival in the streets of the city, students and spectators had the pleasure of attending a performance of Marie Mercadal. Marie is a French artist, from the company Cirk'Oblique, who came especially for the Championship to offer all trapeze performances and initiations to this equipment. At the end of the morning, workshops were held to raise awareness of the environment, health and hygiene and "rugby as a school of life".

The afternoon was devoted to competition on the lawn, under the watchful eye of the national technical director Malagasy Rugby, the program manager Get Into Rugby, the referees and the many spectators and personalities who made the trip. We had the honor of counting on the presence of Bertin Rafalimanana, a great figure of Malagasy rugby and responsible for the development of rugby in the Indian Ocean for Rugby Africa. Referees, educators and students were able to benefit from his valuable advice throughout the day. After intense efforts on the field, Atsimo Atsinanana's men's and women's teams qualified for the national final. They will join the teams of Boeny for the girls and Diana for the boys on june 25 at the Malacam Stadium of Tananarive. Terres en Mêlées is an organization created in 2011. It develops educational projects by rugby and realizes intercultural trips involving young sports educators and rugby players from different countries. The First School Rugby Championship in Madagascar was born out of the desire to extend the Tulear Children & Development program to the whole country, beginning with the training of teachers and the gathering of schoolchildren around major tournaments. In 2017, Terres en Mêlées is honored to have been selected and rewarded by World Rugby for its projects in Madagascar as part of the Spirit of Rugby program.
