Rafting expeditions
At Terra Explorer river trips are in our DNA. Piero Vellutino, our founder, is an expert kayaker and rafting guide, a certified whitewater rescue instructor, who works together with the Ministry of Tourism to regulate the practice of these activities in Peru.
Whether in a river flowing into the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans, our carefully designed expeditions will take you from the Andean highlands to the heart of the Amazon. Other adventures will introduce you to the deepest canyons of the world.
Together with the best rafting equipment and a group of experienced professional guides, you can venture with confidence to explore places you might not otherwise be able to access.

Colca, a canyon with history
Arequipa & Colca
9 days / 8 nights Advanced
The Colca has a very special place in the heart of Piero Vellutino, our founder.
In 1979 a Polish expedition arrived in Arequipa with a petition from Pope John Paul II asking for support, which they received from the Vellutino family. This is how this canyon was successfully paddled for the first time in the history of humankind.
Almost four decades later and for five days, together with Piero, a descendant of those original guides, and other expert guides, navigate the choppy white waters of one of the deepest canyons in the world and view the walls of impressive geological formations.
Cotahuasi Canyon, one of the deepest in the world
Arequipa & Cotahuasi
11 days / 10 nights Advanced
Venture to navigate the white waters of one of the deepest canyon in the world: Cotahuasi, located in the province of Arequipa in southern Peru.
This expedition is an incredible combination of culture and adventure. In 6 days, we will paddle 89 km. (55 miles) of amazing class III, IV, and V rapids.
We will camp on beaches, and hike to explore archeological sites, ancient Inca roads, and tunnels of pre-Hispanic origin preserved in perfect condition. The river is the only access to explore this area, and expeditions to this part of the world do not exceed one per year.
