Letter From The CEO Neil Sproule Acting CEO

It's coming up to that time of year when many of us will start to wind down for some much needed rest and relaxation and a chance to spend time with family and friends over the festive season. In a year that has brought us all lots challenges, I have also seen warmth, care and commitment demonstrated at every turn. I would like to sincerely thank you for your support and pass on our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones. The health and wellbeing of our residents and our employees will continue as a high priority as we move into 2023. We will remember 2022 as a landmark year for positive change, leadership and a strong sense of community. This year has shown us the true value of our community and demonstrated the emotional connections this brings. In all the uncertainty in the last few years we have found ways to work as a team with our residents, their representatives, staff, volunteers and board members to offer consistent and person centred care. Thank you for entrusting us to provide this service to you and your family. We are looking forward to continuing to serve you in 2023. Wishing you a merry Christmas and a safe, relaxing holiday season.

FIJIAN CARERS Left to Right Kasa Lee Ini Joana

Management and staff were excited to welcome the new team members and are planning a morning tea soon for them to meet the TCC team, residents, and their representatives. We are so thrilled to welcome Joana, Kasa, Lee and Ini to our team and are looking forward to providing the chance for them to meet some of our team and helping them assimilate into the Tenterfield Community at large. They will be an enormous asset to our organisation and knowing they will be here for three years will also provide our residents with consistent care. We hope that the greater community can get on board with TCC and help our carers feel welcomed into our lovely town.

FOOD, DINING AND NUTRITION

FOOD & DINING

NEW MENUS The new menu has been released. Resident input and review have been undertaken with some modifications for the Haddington menu based on different dietary needs of the residents. The new kitchen as part of the Haddington extension is being worked through by Ian West Consulting with Bill Sinclair and passed on to the Builder for the layout upgrade.

FOOD, DINING AND NUTRITION YOUR MEALS AND DINING EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE ENJOYABLE DURING MEALTIMES EXPECT TO: • eat, drink and, if you want to, socialise • enjoy your dining experience without it being interrupted by care and clinical tasks, or medication, if possible • have staff engage with you during meal times and chat with you if you want • take as long as you want to eat • enjoy meals that look, taste and smell great and are at the right temperature. YOU CAN TAKE PART IN PLANNING MEALS AND DINING BY: • starting or joining a resident food committee • making suggestions about how the dining room is set up •participating in the setup of the dining room • recommending recipes, reviewing menus and tasting food • talking to the chefs and cooks about your food. THE DINING TEAM SHOULD: • ask you where and when you would like to eat; what you would like to eat and how much; and who you would like to sit with • support you during mealtimes • provide flexible options such as buffet, selfservice, menu ordering and extended mealtimes.

WHY IT MATTERS An enjoyable dining experience: • brings pleasure to a resident's day and enhances their wellbeing and quality of life • is important for residents regardless of what, where, how and when they eat • increases the chances of a resident eating their meals • encourages social interaction and engagement with other residents and staff. If the dining experience is unpleasant, or does not meet residents’ preferences, they will be less likely to eat and drink, which can lead to reduced quality of life, weight loss, malnutrition, frailty, increased risk and falls and poor health.
