LIFE ON BOARD

WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR HOLIDAY

Our ships are large enough to be spacious, comfortable and uncrowded, but still small enough to be the kind of place where you can feel relaxed and able to put your feet up. The size advantage means we can take you to places that some of the mammoth cruise ships can’t, close to the heart of some of the world’s most beautiful cities and breathtaking landscapes. Just sit back, relax and let us present the world for your pleasure.

Most evenings on board are smart casual with a few formal nights for the chance to dress up too. Depending on the length of your holiday there will be one or more formal evenings whilst you are on board. Although Fred. Olsen ships also feature a casual dining restaurant for those guests who prefer not to join the formal evenings. Dress code for these restaurants is smart casual every evening. Most evenings during your cruise holiday will be smart casual, so you can feel relaxed and comfortable whilst enjoying your dinner. For men, a pair of trousers, chinos or smart (dark) jeans, coupled with a polo shirt or shirt is absolutely fine. Some guests prefer to wear a jacket or tie. Ladies’ dress can range from tailored trouser suits and stylish dresses to casual separates and summer dresses. The choice is yours.

Our experienced, friendly crew help to create a warmer, friendlier atmosphere and they all want you to have a holiday to remember. They know that it’s the little things that make the difference, like the smiling barman who remembers your name – and your favourite tipple. That’s why last year more than half our guests had travelled with us before. If you’re new to cruising, you’re sure to be impressed by the great welcome.

FAMILIES WELCOME

We welcome families on board and we offer discounts for adults and children sharing together in a room for three or four. These discounts should be deducted from adult prices in this brochure. 3rd Share 4th Share ✝

Casual wear is perfectly acceptable in the daytime, with many guests opting for shorts and a T-shirt or polo shirt while holidaying in sunny climes, and a pair of light-weight trousers and a sweater or jacket for cooler daytime temperatures.

THE CHOICE IS ALL YOURS

A Fred. Olsen holiday is all about exploring new places and meeting new people. As you arrive at a new destination you have the choice of how you spend your day. Shore Tours are available to help you see the best of a place, or if you would prefer, you can explore independently, giving you the chance to take in the many sights at your own pace. We offer a range of half and full-day tours in almost all destinations through professional local companies, many of which we’ve worked with for years. Whether you want to explore the cathedral a port is famous for, sample the local tipple, or go for the full adventure with a helicopter or off-road 4x4 ride, we make sure you have the best choice. There’s always an English speaking guide on our tours and

often a Fred. Olsen staff member as well. It’s an extension of the warm service you’ll receive on board. Please note, Shore Tours are an additional cost to your cruise price.

NEW DESTINATIONS AND SEA VIEWS

Every day you’ll wake up to the balmy blue ocean, or an exciting new destination; somewhere new to explore and see the sights. You’ll never have enjoyed so much variety in one holiday before. You’ll get so much more from your trip, with the chance to discover different capital cities, pretty islands, sleepy villages or inspirational landscapes. It’s all packed into one great holiday – and with the convenience of only unpacking once.

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD

With Fred. Olsen we want you to be relaxed every step of the way. We know it’s important that you get great value for money so you can take it easy, without having to worry about a big bill at the end of your holiday. That’s why our All Inclusive option has proved so popular.

At Fred. Olsen, we know that dining is one of the experiences that make your holiday such a pleasure. This is why our team of expert chefs painstakingly plan sumptuous menus of carefully prepared meals, designed to make your mouth water. Every day our menus are something special, with dishes varying from appetisers such as herb marinated salmon or crabmeat cocktail, to indulgent main courses like sirloin steak with a choice of sauces, pan-seared red snapper with scallops, slow roast duckling confit or balsamic braised lamb shank.

The prices in this brochure include our All Inclusive package, so you’ll enjoy selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks all day and evening – along with all meals, leisure facilities, daytime activities and live evening entertainment that are always included as standard. A refreshing juice by the pool, a pre-dinner G&T, brandy after the evening show? It’s all covered. Just the kind of peace of mind you want to make your holiday all the more enjoyable. Most drinks are covered by the All Inclusive package and those that aren’t (such as premium brands and cocktails) are usually available with a 50% discount. So you’ll save all the way – in the bars, lounges and restaurants across the ship. You can easily get more than your money’s worth without having to keep an eye on your spending. Relaxing all the way: that’s what a holiday with Fred. Olsen is all about. The following is included in the All Inclusive package**:

IN THE BARS

• Selection of soft drinks by the glass: Pepsi (post-mix on pump), lemonade, tonic water, juices and mineral/spring water • House wines by the glass • Selected branded beers in cans or on draught • House spirits: rum, gin, vodka, whiskey, brandy

Of course, we always have options for vegetarians and healthy choices too, with an emphasis on fish dishes inspired by our Norwegian heritage: so even if you’re watching your diet, you’re in for a treat! Our desserts are every bit as tasty (think white chocolate parfait or mango apple tart) and the sugar free option means no-one has to miss out. Just take a look at the sample menu (right). It all sounds so good, you might find it hard to choose! And it’s all included in your holiday price.

SALADS • House salad • Hand tossed classic Caesar salad MAIN COURSES • Grilled fillet of Norwegian salmon with warm crayfish butter dressing • Roast lamb loin “Provencal” with garlic and herb crust • Grilled sirloin steak with jacket potato, balsamic baked tomatoes, and herb butter • Vegetable tempura, sushi rolls and soya spiced broth DESSERTS & CHEESES • Creamy chocolate pot with crisp shortbread biscuit • Passion fruit and lime chiffon tart (also available sugar free) • British and international cheeses

speciality coffees; Traditional Afternoon Tea events; Wine Fayres. 50% discount on the published price available on: branded and premium drinks and

SMALL BUT SPACIOUS

The smaller scale of our ships doesn’t mean less room. Each bedroom has ample space, with an en suite bathroom and all the facilities you’ll need to enjoy your holiday in comfort. In fact, our rooms are comparable in size to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. With less people on board, it’s easy to find a quiet spot to enjoy a peaceful drink or undisturbed read, stretch out by the pool and get ashore quicker – without the need to fight for space with thousands of people.

YOUR CHOICE OF ROOMS

When it comes to choosing accommodation, there’s a range of different options, so you can pick what suits you best. Interior Rooms are usually at the lowest prices. They are ideal for those who prefer to spend more time out and about and less time in their cabin. A Standard Ocean View Room is great if you want to throw back the curtain and see the arrival into a new destination or admire the beautiful blue seas through your window or porthole. For a special experience, a Suite allows you to indulge in a little more relaxation and space with a private place to unwind. 8

AWARD-WINNING HOLIDAYS

We were very proud to have scored 86%, and second place, in the Which? 2013 Cruise Survey, beating many larger cruise companies. The high score was achieved by a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people were to recommend Fred. Olsen to a friend. Along with the second place, the report concluded that Fred. Olsen is, “wellsuited to people who want to avoid oceangoing giants”. Other recent successes included being awarded Best Value for Money in the 2013 Cruise Critic UK Editors’ Picks Awards for the second consecutive year. We were also delighted to have been voted Best Affordable Cruise Line by readers of Cruise International magazine for the second year running, along with being highly commended in the Best Cruise Line category. It means a lot to us that the efforts of our staff and crew are recognised by so many people. And it makes us want to try even harder.

Caribbean, Amazon &

t he Americas

CARIBBEAN, AMAZON & THE AMERICAS

These blissful islands offer gorgeous beaches, fascinating, if turbulent, history and a laid-back culture that’s a pleasure to experience. There’s the option to sail from Southampton, or get straight to the sun with a fly-cruise. You can choose to arrange your own travel to and from the ship, perhaps spending a few days on land before or after your cruise, or book a flight with Fred. Olsen so that you can rest assured that everything is taken care of, including transfers and bonded luggage*. For something a little more adventurous, take an epic voyage to Canada and the USA, taking in the spectacular scenery of the Eastern Seaboard, at a time of year when the fall should be at its absolute best. After the bright lights of Boston and New York, you’ll leave behind a coastline packed with wonderful destinations, keeping with you memories you’ll never forget. For something really exotic, seek out rare wildlife, indigenous tribes and dense rainforest on a voyage along the Amazon. The largest tropical rainforest on earth, Amazonia encompasses seven million square kilometres throughout South America. A cruise to this fascinating region will give you a unique insight into this great wilderness. *Bonded luggage on Fred. Olsen flights through Barbados, where available.

Almost completely encircled by land, the Mediterranean Sea is awash with sea ports of historic importance. Your holiday in this region will be filled with bustling, modern cities; ancient monuments; sleepy villages; and sandy beaches, all bathed in balmy weather.

Highlights of this tempting collection of sailings include: exquisite Barcelona; the vineyards of Bordeaux; intriguing Odessa; the canals of ‘La Serenissima’; Dubrovnik, the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’; and historic Malta. Every destination has its own unique character to be revealed. In contrast to Istanbul’s remarkable skyline, punctuated with minarets and grand domes, Gibraltar proudly displays its imposing ‘rock’, the iconic image of this unusual, sun-tinged, British territory; and while Athens is the place to go for historic monuments, Tangier’s souk-lined, colourful streets offer a buzzing atmosphere not to be missed. Our ‘Film Stars and Fast Cars’ itinerary is perfectly timed to be in Cannes for the star-studded Film Festival and Nice at the time of the Grand Prix – a cruise experience like no other! Closer to home, a voyage around the UK can showcase just how diverse, fascinating and beautiful our homeland is; from the Orkney Isles’ rugged and dramatic cliffs to Dublin’s sociable atmosphere. Perhaps it’s no surprise that our summertime ‘Around the UK’ sailing was our best seller from the entire 2013 Worldwide programme. With variety and attractions in abundance, whichever sailing you chose, you’re sure to create memories you’ll cherish for years to come.

NORWEGIAN FJORDS

Sailing along a seemingly endless fjord – framed by sheer cliffs, glaciers and glistening waterfalls – is a humbling experience, whether it’s your first time or your hundredth: the splendour of nature is overpowering. You feel you can almost reach out and touch the sides. Better still, you can enjoy this inspirational experience from the comfort of your ship, with the knowledge that this is the prelude to your next port of call. Without doubt, the journey is as rewarding as the destination. Norway is home to some of the most famous, longest and most impressive fjords in the world. They bring thousands of visitors every year yet, conversely, sailing these tranquil and enchanting waterways can make you feel there’s no-one else on the planet. Pretty chocolate box towns lie in wait along the country’s beautiful coast – bursting with unique culture, colourful meadows, charming architecture and wildlife, all for your exploration. Famously managed by a Norwegian family and with Norwegian officers on board all our ships, we’ve made full use of this knowledge and expertise, ensuring our Norway itineraries feature more scenic fjord cruising than ever before. Your camera will be just as busy on sea days as it will be in port. Our traditional ships are ideal for navigating this picturesque region: their smaller size allows us to take you further into the fjords (some as narrow as 500 metres wide), getting you closer to your destination. Bigger cruise ships sail directly into port then straight back out to sea. We can take you between your destinations by cruising through the fjords, revealing them in all their splendour. It’s a totally different experience. What better way to enjoy all this wonderful region has to offer, than on a Fred. Olsen cruise?

SCENIC CRUISING

Norwegian Fjords

One of the real pleasures of cruising the fjords with Fred. Olsen is that we don’t pass by: our smaller ships can take you right into the heart of some of Norway’s most spectacular natural landscapes.

On the following pages we have selected a few of our favourite cruises to this region. To see all Fred. Olsen cruises to the Norwegian Fjords, visit www.fredolsencruises.com Cruise highlights include optional tours, available to book six weeks prior to departure, subject to availability and service operation. 38
