welcome from the

CAMPUS PRINCIPAL

Welcome to Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park (KL). Tenby provides students a holistic, rigorous international education for success in an ever-changing world. Thus we aim to do more than just offer an academic curriculum; we also want to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who will become life-long learners. As a 21st century school, we understand what best produces proficiency in the skills and attributes that are critical to success. Through outstanding teaching and learning and the constant reinforcement of our core values – education matters, it is central to all that we do; international mindedness; lifelong learning; respect; sensitivity to cultural diversity and effective communication – we empower our students to achieve their goals and become responsible global citizens. Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park (KL) is a special place and we are celebrating many recent successes, from academic results, music and drama performances to eco-awards and sporting podium places. This busy international school is on a 20-acre purposebuilt campus that is equipped with modern facilities for learning and teaching. The school offers an international student-centred programme.

This enables students from these different educational programmes to interact and cultivate a true understanding of one another. Comprising 3 to 18-year-olds from 38 different nationalities, our students take on a broad-based British curriculum anchored on innovative teaching and learning approaches and explore the world beyond the classroom through field trips along with extensive extra-curricular activities. The school has many wonderful qualities, from dedicated, creative and hard-working students and staff to a very supportive parent body; united as a team, we have a ‘blueprint’ for great success. Education is not the process of filling up an empty vessel, but the lighting of a fire in the hearts and minds of the young with whom we are privileged to work. We would like to invite you to join the world of Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park (KL). Please arrange a visit to our school to have a better understanding of what we can offer your child. We look forward to meeting you soon.

The campus consists of two schools: • an international school that follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), National Curriculum for England (UK), IGCSE and A Level programmes; and

EARLY YEARS (AGE 3 - 5)

Every child deserves the best Early Years education. Our Early Years Centre provides a stimulating and high quality education, in a safe, caring and inspiring environment. We follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) and provide children with the best possible start to their learning journey, developing a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their life. There are four main themes to our Early Years curriculum at Tenby International School: • Your child is unique: children are constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. • Your child is cared for: children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. • Your child is inspired: children learn and develop in enabling environments and there is a strong partnership between teachers and parents. • Your child learns and develops: children develop and learn in different ways. Our team of caring, dedicated, qualified and inspirational teachers are here to ensure your child achieves their academic potential and becomes a creative, compassionate, responsible member of our diverse world. It is important that children have the time to learn, play, make friends and grow.

PRIMARY SCHOOL (AGE 5 - 11) Tenby International School Primary follows the National Curriculum for England (UK), which we deliver through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). We are proud of our strong academic emphasis. Our passion for learning is visible in every classroom and throughout our corridors. We believe our children should take some responsibility for their own learning journey and utilise strategies such as Pupil Portfolios and Student Led Conferences to ensure children are part of the teaching and learning process. Tenby International School Primary children are closely monitored to ensure their progress as successful, confident and responsible learners. Structured teaching is complemented by the encouragement of creativity, independent learning and wellrounded experiences. Sports, Music, Drama and foreign languages all feature strongly in rich curricular and co-curricular provision.

Children come to school happy and confident in the knowledge that the Tenby experience is about so much more than academic excellence. Our whole campus House System provides children with opportunities to be rewarded for their efforts outside the classroom, where they can earn House Points for their participation in areas such as sports, environmental work, community service and culture and creativity. The positive values promoted at Tenby International School Primary are based on eight personal goals: thoughtfulness, morality, resilience, respect, communication, enquiry, cooperation and adaptability, with the aim of developing international mindedness and understanding for a peaceful world. Tenby International School Primary children progress to Secondary School with a love of learning, a concern for others and great memories.

SECONDARY SCHOOL (AGE 11 - 16)

We understand that these years can be a challenging period for a child’s emotional, intellectual and social development. The National Curriculum for England (UK), appropriately modified for international students, guides and engages students through an innovative learning programme. Tenby International School Secondary is split into three key stages: Key Stage 3 (11 - 14 years), Key Stage 4 (14 - 16 years) and Key Stage 5 (16 - 18 years). Here we provide a balanced education within a positive and stimulating environment, where students feel valued and can grow to their full potential. At Key Stage 3 students are taught 13 compulsory subjects including Maths, English Language, English Literature, Science, Modern Foreign Languages, History, Geography, Design Technology, Art and Design and Physical Education. At Key Stage 4 this narrows down and allows student to study a range of subjects including the core of Mathematics, English Literature and Language, at least one Science and one Language. Students are able to choose additional preferred courses, with more than 20 subjects on offer, including Economics, Business Studies and Textiles. As an integral part of the Key Stage 4 curriculum, each Year 10 pupil undertakes a short period of Work Experience.

12

We have a team of expert teachers and subject specialists that have continued with their own learning journey and consistently develop, practice and push educational boundaries.

a warm welcome

FROM OUR PARENTS ASSOCIATION

Tenby Schools is fortunate enough to work with an active Parents Association (PA), whose committee liaises between the school, parents and community associations to create a strong school spirit by organising events and activities for students, parents and staff. The PA is key when transitioning into the school as it gives parents the opportunity to socialise, stay connected and make friends by hosting coffee mornings. It is comprised of parent volunteers and maintains a strong community that is inclusive of both the international and national schools. It relies on the creativity and energy of volunteers to organise events such as: Welcome coffee mornings Parent seminars The Annual School Ball Used clothing and book drives Bake sales and charity raffles Organising food for major school events Quiz nights It’s a warm and welcoming community that we hope you will be a part of too.

any

QUESTIONS?

If you would like to know more about our schools get in contact with our Admissions Team +603-3342 1535 ecopark@tenby.edu.my

When should I apply? Although we operate a rolling admissions, we recommend you apply as early as possible to guarantee your child’s place. Places are limited and some year groups have a waiting list.

How does the school determine what year group my child will be placed in? Students will be placed in year groups according to their date of birth. Our academic year cut-off date is 31st August. Students entering Early Years must have turned 3 by 1st September and so on as we progress up the school.

What is the house system? Every student is assigned to one of four Houses within the school. These Houses provide smaller communities within the school, allowing students to identify with staff and other students outside their own year group and beyond International and National Schools, while giving them a focus of identity beyond their year and tutor groups. Healthy competition is also established between Houses through school sports, arts and academic competitions.

Is there a buddy system? All new arrivals are given buddies to help them settle into the school routines. The Parents Association is always available to help new parents settle.

What does the school do to help children develop their English? We ensure that children speak English during lessons (apart from language lessons of course). We provide Assistant Teachers for younger students and have a specialist support department known as The Learning Centre (TLC) with English as an Additional Language (EAL) teachers, who provide extra support and help for students who require it. Children with EAL needs are assessed by The Learning Centre prior to entry to identify the level of English support needed and must attain an age-related standard. Therefore there are no students who are complete beginners of English at Tenby International School Secondary. Children applying with specific support needs will be assessed by the The Learning Centre to ensure that the school is able to offer an appropriate programme of learning.
