Shabbat Service at 7:30 pm, Lecture at 8:15 pm Eric Deggans is NPR’s first full-time TV critic. He came to NPR from the Tampa Bay Times newspaper in Florida, where he served as TV/Media Critic and in other roles for nearly 20 years. He is also the author of Race-Baiter: How the Media Wields Dangerous Words to Divide a Nation (2012), a look at how prejudice, racism and sexism fuels some elements of modern media. Eric was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Gary, IN. Interestingly, he went to the Hebrew Academy of Northwest Indiana (HANI) for middle school. He has a Bachelor’s of Arts in political science and journalism from Indiana University. In 2016 he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award in Journalism from the Indiana University Media School as well as many previous awards.
