The Inside Out Project is a global art project transforming messages of personal identity into works of art.

The founder JR, began this project back in 2006 beginning with his first installation in the bourgeois districts of Paris, “Portrait of a generation”. This installation becomes “official” when the Paris City Hall wrapped its building with his photos. From there he did several different installation such as “Face 2 Face” on the security fence/separation wall of the Israelis and Palestinians. In 2008 he achieved a trip for “Women” and “Wrinkles of the City”. His film for “Women are Hero’s” was presented at the Cannes, and in 2011 he received the Ted Prize which offered him the opportunity to make “A wish to change the world.” JR creates the Insideout Project that allows people worldwide to participate to get their portrait pasted to support and idea and share an experience.

Hearing about the Inside Out Project made us realize different issues of the world. We loved how one project has the ability to create a positive effect by bringing people together. We wanted this to be our chance to make a change in the world.

We are a diverse group of individuals who choose to make a difference in our community. We are hard-working creatives and visionaries that see what the world could become. We are willing to try to succeed at making a change in peoples everyday lives through art. We choose to motivate citizens by building a group of our own and making a project that is timeless and worthwhile.

We are strategic, creative, media specialists determined to deliver outstanding results. Our message is bold with soul and is done by, delivered by, and received by the community.

With an ethnocentric perspective we believe that their should be no division of social class, race, or gender. There should be no difference between eachother, and we should live and function as one whole community.

THE COMMUNITY PROJECT Our message: “Be the Voice - The SF Community Project”. The objective of this project is to send a message to the community about empathy and awareness of different cultures, ethnicity, sexual preferences and social classes that are part of one city and how we are all part of the same community. Our focus is to represent and “Be the Voice” of homeless people. Our goal is to communicate an issue that needs to be taken care of.

We have the resources and skills to produce successful and positive results with team players with strong ideas and values and will take on this task with passion and determination. But most importantly, we are a diverse group of individuals who wish to make an impact in society and educate our community.

We created the Inside Out SF community project team by asking people to help or by people responding to the posters, fliers, and emails that were dispersed. We started this project with just two members who, in just a few weeks, became 23. The 23 of us took photos, pasted, made documents to send out, and made sure that the whole process ran smoothly.

We are all very dedicated hard workers with the same vision of having art change people’s lives.

Functional benefit: The posters pasted on the walls will show the diversity within the city while being aesthetically pleasing at the same time. It will make you wonder and want to know more about that project and hopefully make you think differently about the people around you.

OUR STATEMENT We want to ”BE THE VOICE” through art and photography of those unheard of, and bring together a society that is aware of not only the “influential” or “average” people but also of those who are ignored. We want to bring the community together to represent its different layers of society. This includes people who live here and that we feel like represent the city! Everyone is involved!

HERE’S HOW: Spread the word through social media and word to mouth, to share the project Find participants. Use the inside out SF posters for methods like word to mouth, Facebook, and local bulletins, to share the project and find people who want to help, either by having their portrait taken, letting us borrow their wall, or contributing during the pasting days Help us find a wall. From walls to windows to roofs, there are many ways to make our statement. Work with your community to get access to these locations and share our intentions with them Contact wall owners and ask them to participate Help us take portraits of our community If you are a film professional or student or have a friend that can help us film the progress of the project If you want to be part of our group action If you have contacts with the art commission, art, or advertising comission Encourage donations to support Inside Out. Upon uploading and approval of all portraits, we will have a special PayPal link to an account used to collect donations. PHOTOGRAPHING We are shooting SF residences but want to make sure that the pictures include also homeless, sheltered, hippies, diverse ethnicities and sexual preferences. n general people who represent the spirit of the city. We “want to be the voice” of those unheard of in the community. WE ARE ALL SF. So want to make sure we use pictures of people who express the diversity of the community. We want to paste together in the same wall homeless, business owners, tech, yogis, gay, all ethnicities, and professions together. People who express their personality!

STATEMENT Thousands of faces collected in March 2014 from photos that were uploaded to the website www.au-pantheon.fr, and at nine national monuments through an Inside Out PhotoBooth truck, created this monumental work that surrounded the drum of the Pantheon's dome, and covered the floor inside the monument.

STATEMENT A nationwide participatory art initiative aimed at creating a portrait of America that includes immigrants and the descendants of immigrants alike.

Beyond any political debate about 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., these portraits remind us that behind the numbers are real human stories. Inside Out 11M aimed to start a conversation about immigration.

STATEMENT It’s a project against racism and for tolerance. We want to bring people of different ethnic origin, religion, culture, gender or sexual orientation together.

We want that People see people besides all differences. Being different opens up more possibilities, such as life could be too. We can learn from each other and so enrich our own lives. We need not all be equal in order to live together. And sometimes we are more equal than we want to admit it.

STATEMENT I was standing in the checkout aisle at the grocery when Steve told me he had been diagnosed with (ALS) Lou Gehrig’s disease. I assume he saw the color leave my face because in true Steve form he put things in perspective reminding me, “We all have limited time” and encouraging me to, “get busy living”.

The idea of the project is to inspire others to put on their best face and to “get busy living”.

STATEMENT In 2007, with Marco, he made Face 2 Face, the biggest illegal exhibition ever. JR posted huge portraits of Israelis and Palestinians face to face in eight Palestinian and Israeli cities.

Listen to this wall is our first wall location that is in the historic district of Haight Ashbury in San Francisco. The wall is in a prime location and is visible to all walking on Haight Street.

••• March 6th, 2015 Dear editor: We are contacting you on behalf of JR from the ted award winning project for “A wish to change the world” the global art project “INSIDEOUT” (www.insideoutproject.net).

After having been in over 112 countries, INSIDE OUT has a new voice in SF and the portraits of the citizens (including homeless, sheltered, LGBT, and “average citizens”) will be pasted side-by-side on public walls donated by art communities and owners of the properties.

We will be posting more than 200 portraits of San Franciscans. Sized 36X53 on different walls and facades in San Francisco on the week of March 22.

The goal of this project is to create empathy and awareness of the many layers and social classes of the city. The group of action in SF project was started by a professor of the Art institute and has now involved over 300 people and over 5 different local companies including the Indicate Design Group, Soma Magazine, listen to This Wall, Precita eyes art murals and the Art Institute of Silicon Valley and San Francisco.

We would love to get you involved! We think your readers, especially those who believe in social causes and who like guerilla campaigns and world changing art, will find this to be a real inspiration.

Guerilla Marketing Event

Our team held a Guerilla Marketing event in Dolores Park, San Francisco.

At the park we gathered 200 people to participate by holding up the 36”x53” portraits that we photographed. The results of the event were awesome as we were able to pass on the message of “BE THE VOICE” & 75 had everyone come together as a community to stand up and be heard.
