In terms of safety performance, Teck Cominco did not achieve the superb numbers the company realized in 2003. However, the company’s results in 2004 were above industry averages. Highland Valley Copper led the way with a lost-time accident frequency of less than 0.5 per 200,000 hours and its 10th consecutive win at the Zone and Provincial Mine Rescue Competitions. Trail Operations also had good performance in 2004 compared to its historic results. It is with great regret that we must report two fatalities at Antamina as a result of a traffic-related accident. Our condolences go out to the families and the friends of both individuals involved.
