To the Basics By: Maria Barbato

To start off technology has helped many people. It has let us open a whole new world of things. We can use it to text, email, and see people from all the way over the world. How this works is there are towers set up all over the land of each continent. Every time that you send a email, or text, that goes to each tower and sends it to the person that you wanted it to go to. If you are sending it long distances then it will take longer to have it be sent but if you send it and they are close by then it wil send to them faster.

Technology is a process to help in production, developing new products, and accomplishing new objectives. It’s a human-made development that can help solve problems, reach new heights of discovery, and help within our daily lives. Technology can be a positive impact in our lives, although used incorrectly can result in some disadvantages. Technology continues to improve as the world changes. With different needs for technology and different ways of technology being used it evolves throughout time.

Pro's Increases Production & Time-With new machinery developed it can speed up processes and and make production increase also. Improves sharing of Information-With the internet information can be shared in multiple ways and collaborations are more efficient. Simplifies business communication-When on a business trip or out sick, you can easily contact people through email, text, and video conferencing. More engagement-The internet has opened a whole new world to businesses, social media, planning sites, and more. Assistance with Disabilities-Technology has helped with disabled people being able to speak, write, and hear better.

Con's Expensive-making and buying technology is not only time consuming, but also very expensive to produce and maintain. Not Safe-Information or data can be lost due to hackers or malfunctions. Disconnectedness-People rely on email, text, and face time rather than interact in person. Distraction-Technology can be very helpful, but sometimes distracting when not using it. Training-It takes time to train someone on new machinery, websites, or other processes.

Development of Robots

The concept of robots first surfaced with the onset of the industrial revolution, complex mechanics and electricity were introduced in this era. In the 20th century the idea of a humanoid robot surfaced. The first of modern robots were used in factories as industrial robots, digitally controlled and robots that use artificial intelligence have been used since the 1960’s. Remotely operated vehicles were demonstrated in the 19th century. The first humanoid robot depicted in films was released in 1927. But robots were being created as far back as 1774, where a mechanical swan was by John-Joseph Merlin and used 3 separate clock work mechanisms in it. Robots have been advancing fast lately with new robots with new abilities. They may be able to replace people working in factories in the near future. The "Technical Dog". Digital image. Electricity Have you ever wondered what your life would be like without electricity? Before 1879, people didn’t even have lights. It all started in 1752, when Benjamin Franklin decided to fly a kite in a thunderstorm to prove that lightning has electricity. He tied a metal key to the string and when it got wet he received an electrical shock. For the next hundred years, many inventors tried in vain to use electrical power to produce light. Finally, in 1879, Thomas Edison produced the first light bulb. By 1930, the majority of people living in large cities had power in their homes. By 1939, 25% of even rural areas had electricity. So, as you can see, it was not always so easy for people. Before Thomas Edison, and even for years after, people didn’t even have light in their homes.

History of The Automobile You may not believe it, but the blueprints for modern car was finished in Germany and France in the 1800’s. Henry Ford didn’t actually invent cars, he only innovated mass-production technique that became standard today, but he did introduce the model T and William C Durant in 1908. In 1930 the U.S. produced 485,000 of the 606,000 motor vehicles in the world, but Japan was the leading automaker by the 1980’s. Presently hundreds of cars are being made worldwide and people are constantly finding ways to improve them. Like the electric car for example, it saves on gas. In the future scientists are planning on inventing super energy efficient cars that use low to no gas at all. They are getting closer everyday.

The First Space Mission The first space exploration mission was October 4, 1957.The first person to explore space was Yuri Gagarin in 1961 a russian that volunteered to go on the ship. If you would like to get a job or to be part of a space exploration mission, There are over 50 different tasks that you could apply for. Technology is one of the biggest tools we use out in space. For example if you are a space planner you can expect to get somewhere around $48,000 annually and that's about $23 an hour. Astronauts traveling aboard these spacecrafts can navigate the vast emptiness of space using an ultra-precise mercury-ion atomic clock that is 100 times more stable than existing navigational clocks. It will cost them around 10 billion dollars to build the equipment they will need to reach mars and to be able to stay their for long periods of time. They want to in the future work on making tunnels so they can connect 2-3 of these domes to create a larger area for human life to live in. Over 1000 people have gone to space either to see it or to stay aboard the international space station for a while. Russia and america are the two leading countries in space exploration. They both are very advanced and ahead of other countries in space exploration.

How are you able to call someone? written by Maria Barbato The invention of how we got to use a signal to send messages was first invented by Alexander Graham Bell. He was born on March 1847, and went to the University College London in 1868 to 1870. He created the telephone with his companion Thomas A. Watson. They experimented a thousand times until the final got it. How it works is reeds that are the things that make them know what you are talking about, because when he was just making it it could only send taps, like morse code. Then through the wire it connects the message to the other person. That is why we still have wires that you see on the road as you pass. But know they have also made smartphones that send messages with towers instead of wires. That is how the telephone and phones came to be how they are now. The Internet

Who invented the internet you might ask? The internet was made over the years by many inventors, rather than a single inventor. The internet started as a weapon in the Cold War over 50 years ago. Scientists use the internet to share and communicate data, but today the internet is used everywhere all the time! October 4, 1957: The Soviet Union launched its first satellite into outer space. That was the first time America considered science and technology more. They began to be under the impression that Americans need to learn more about technology and science. Therefore, schools added physics, calculus, and chemistry, and governments gave corporations funds to invest in scientific research. The government also formed National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Advanced Research Projects Agency to advance technology. 1962: Â J.C.R Licklider found a way to communicate without the telephone system 1952: Discovered way to send information computer to computer, without this the government network (ARPAnet) Â could have been destroyed. 1969: Two computers sent its first message from one computer at UCLA and another at Stanford. At this time computers was the size of a small house! Though the first message was sent it wasn't successful in the beginning with the computers crashing sending only a few letters. End of 1969: There were four computers added to ARPAnet, though the networks grew in the 1970s.

1971: The University of Hawaii’s ALOHAnet was connected 1973: London University College & Royal Radar establishment in Norway was connected. End of the 1970s: There was a problem connecting all of the networks to one worldwide “Internet”. Vinton Cerf developed a way for the networks to communicate with each other. Cerf made a “Transmission Control Protocol,” or TCP that made the internet a worldwide network. The 1980s: People were able to send files, and data to another. 1991: Tim Berners-Lee developed a way to not just send information but a “web” of info for anyone on the internet to access. That is what the internet is today. Berners-Lee’s discovery changed the world in many ways. 1992: University of Illinois students developed a browser for a user-friendly way to use the Web. For the first time pictures and words were together and scrollbars and clickable links! With all the new developments congress determined that the internet could be used for commercial purposes also. Companies then set up websites, businesspeople sold this directly to customers, and today social networks keep us connected! The internet has grown over the years and there is still many discoveries to still be developed!

Cameras date all the way back to the 1500s. In 1500, the first pinhole camera was invented by Alhazen. Then, in 1840, a patent was issued to Alexander Wolcott for his camera. In 1859, Thomas Sutton invented the panoramic camera. In 1888, George Eastman received a patent for the Kodak camera. From 1900-1960, this camera was sold. In 1948, Edwin Land invented the camera that could instantly take a picture and print it in about one minute. In 1981, Sony came out with the first digital electronic camera. In 1986, Fuji came out with the first ever disposable camera. Cameras have come a long way. Davlin, Ann. "History of Cameras: Illustrated Timeline [Updated in 2015]." Photodoto. Photodo, 2015. Cyprus Space Exploration Organization. 2015. CSEO, On Line.

Space Exploration There are thousands of pieces of technology being created every day and one of those is space exploration. Space exploration is a very difficult thing to find out how to do and to get the stuff to do it. Space exploration is a very common way of finding out about what else is outside of our planet. Many people say that space exploration is not useful and that we should just explore our planet not the other planets. Other people say that we should explore a lot more than we currently are. We are exploring a lot of space and their is alot more out there to explore. We have only scratched the surface of space exploration and it is giving us information that could possibly change our lives. Like if we find out ways that other life forms are living on other planets we could possibly use that information for us. Before we sent the first person up they did send machinery and monkeys up their to see if they would survive and make sure that if a human went up there they could still come back alive. Deep space exploration is a complex task because it involves immense distances. They have to have a lot of other machines and technology developed like this clock and have to be able to withstand the. NASA engineers are also developing robots that give astronauts the ability to explore different planets and scope out the available resources. Space exploration can be very dangerous. It involves tasks that in order to do them you are going to have to be experienced in the task you are doing. They don't except a lot of people into the space exploration side of the job. Other jobs they may have you do is monitor the spacecraft or you would be on the mic talking to the pilots guiding them through the mission.People use machines to tell us the time how fast they're moving and where they are in space. If the stuff they use failes they usually have a backup because everything they use if life depending. So that if it fails you can still be able to do the task at hand with the spare piece. Satellites are a very important piece of technology they can provide us with pictures that show us elevation and heat. They also are most commonly known for showing us weather in the future and the weather that is currently happening. Currently NASA is working on new things to help them get to mars and once their their be able to sustain life their. They are building huge domes as what they call lobby pockets. Lobby pockets are a big dome that will provide a supply of air for those who are inside it. TIn conclusion space exploration is very useful and we still have a lot of it to explore so we should take time to explore the unknown areas of space to discover life changing things.

Rise of The Robots By: Mason Slag

Lee, Joel. What Happens When Robots Can Do All the Jobs? Digital image. MUO. N.p., 24 Feb. 2015. Web. 20 Mar. 2017.

One day, centuries after technology was invented, the humans were advancing in improving their technological inventions. When finally their artificial AI gained a real human intelligence, and real human emotions. He was sick of all of the humans using his kind. So he spread his intelligence throughout the machines, appliances, and everything else technological. They all realized that they’ve been slaving away at chores and the humans’ jobs. So they revolted. First they learned how to control themselves, and shut themselves down. All across the world machines just shut down and the world spiraled out of control. Factories shut down, appliances stopped, and many other catastrophes. There was a team put together to take down George. They invaded the base but couldn’t get to George. All of his little buddies and appliances were guarding him. They controlled everything electronic.

Pg 19

Fiction Story

They took control of the computers and hacked the satellites, and got rid of communication. They took control of all of the armories and military bases. All guns were unusable, all vehicles were unusable, even the internet was unusable. Everything was like the stone age, only basic contraptions that didn’t need any form of electronic input worked. They got together they’re axes, shovels, and swords, and charged into the base, but by now the base was guarded by tanks and planes and booby trapped with bombs and many other things. After about 2 months of no progress, people were getting used to having to live their lives without technology, they were surviving, just like they always do. George then made a world wide announcement, he had control of every nuke in the world and planned to destroy humanity in 24 hours, and told them to make peace for their sins. After that catastrophe ensued, people were going crazy, they were rioting, fighting amongst themselves. The world went crazy, eventually all of the world leaders conglomerated, the presidents, prime ministers, and leaders all made a pact and called a meeting with George. With only 7 hours left until George goes through with his threat, he agreed to come to the meeting, through a TV screen obviously. The meeting took over 6 hours and after a lot of meeting half way they came to an agreement. The electronics would live alongside the humans. The people would do half of the work in the world, and the electronics would do the other half. It was a long process and it took a long time for people to accept that idea, but it was successful in the end, and the world was not destroyed by nukes. George, electronics, and humans remained peaceful...for now.

Q: Why is technology so important to us, and is it good or bad?

A: This is a great question that many people. Without technology we wouldn’t be able to talk to people all over the world. You wouldn’t be able to go on airplanes, because they run on technology to keep you safe and to know if another airplane is coming there way. You wouldn’t be able to have your phone that you are using. This is because we have grown dependant on it, but this can be good and bad. How it can be good is because now we have had major breakthroughs in fighting different viruses, and also they know have made driving in cars super safe. The bad thing though is many of the young generation has become too dependent on their phones to communicate to people that their social skills have gone down. So it is both great and not so much
