NOTING THE BEST CONFERENCE IN AMERICA • The recently announced 13-year joint television agreement with FOX and ESPN is a significant milestone for the Big 12, making the Conference just one of two leagues with over-theair and cable broadcast programming over two national outlets. It assures that every home Big 12 football game will be available for telecast. • The Big 12 has the nation’s best non-conference record and win percentage at 15-2 and .882, respectively - leading the ACC (15-3, .833), SEC (14-4, .778), Pac-12 (17-6, .739), Big Ten (15-8, . 652), and Big East (7-5, .583). Last season the Big 12 led the nation with a 27-3 non-conference record, and .900 win percentage. • Through 17 games this season, Big 12 teams are averaging 512.3 yards in total offense, while outscoring its opponents by an average score of 46-15. Big 12 teams have combined to score 788 points, while holding the opposition to 263 through the first two weeks of the season. BRIEFLY ... • Senior safety Cody Davis is Tech’s most seasoned veteran on both sides of the football. Davis has made 38 starts in his career, including last week at Texas State. • Senior offensive linemen LaAdrian Waddle and Deveric Gallington have made 27 consecutive starts. • Texas Tech is in the midst of a school record 183 consecutive game scoring streak. The streak dates back to Oct. 25, 1997 and during that time frame, Texas Tech has scored in double digits in 172-of-183 games. • In the season opener, Texas Tech won its 50th home game since 2002 and the Red Raiders are now 50-13 at home over the past decade. • With a win over Northwestern State, Texas Tech improved to 52-4 (.929 winning %) since 2000 against unranked nonconference opponent at Jones AT&T Stadium. • Tommy Tuberville has a career non-conference record of 48-6. • Three Red Raiders made their first career starts on Saturday at Texas State: Senior receiver Tyson Williams, junior receiver Javon Bell and redshirt freshman Branden Jackson. • Senior receiver Alex Torres is just 60 yards away from hitting the 2,000 mark in career receiving yards. He owns 1,940 career
yards on 160 receptions and has logged 14 touchdowns. • Texas Tech Head Football Coach Tommy Tuberville continues to promote the Red Raider Football program across the state and that will continue with the start of the season. Tuberville will take part in three Red Raider Club Kickoff Luncheon across the state, beginning on Monday in Midland. Tuberville will travel to Dallas on Sept. 10 and Houston on Sept. 17, to meet with Red Raider fans and talk about the progress of this year’s team. • Texas Tech has sold the second highest number of season tickets in school history as over 32,300 were taken prior to the season opener against NSU. The school record for season ticket sales is 34,000 and came in Tommy Tuberville’s first season as head coach in 2010. • Texas Tech Football student-athletes are getting the job done in the classroom as well as on the football field. Texas Tech leads the Big 12 Conference in graduation rate. AIR RAID SIRENS SOUND IN SAN MARCOS Texas Tech fans that left Jones AT&T Stadium after the season opener were probably wondering what happened to Texas Tech’s high flying passing attack. Those in attendance at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, however, were seeking shelter as the Red Raiders unleashed an aerial attack that covered 405 yards and produced five touchdowns. Just one week after displaying a balanced offensive attack against Northwestern State (47 passes and 46 rushes), the Red Raiders went almost exclusively with the passing attack as 44 plays went through the air with 23 on the ground. Quarterbacks Seth Doege, Michael Brewer and Brant Costilla combined for 33 completions on 44 attempts. Doege’s five touchdown passes tied a career high that he set last season at New Mexico. Texas Tech’s offense was so effective in San Marcos that the Red Raiders never had the need to use junior punter Ryan Erxleben. The last time Tech did not record a single punt in a game was at home against Baylor in 2008. BIG PLAYS ABOUND Texas Tech’s wide open attack on Saturday also led to more big plays. Against Texas State, the Red Raiders compiled three offensive plays that went 25-plus yards versus just one in the season opener against Northwestern State. Erick Stephens’
