RED RAIDERS RETURN TO ACTION AGAINST TEXAS A&M Coming off its first Big 12 victory of the season, Texas Tech returns to the court Wednesday evening in College Station for a 6:30 p.m. match against the Texas A&M Aggies at Reed Arena. THE SERIES Following the Aggies’ five-set victory earlier this season, Texas A&M controlls a 53-29 all-time advantage in the series that dates back to 1975. Tech, which is only 8-25 all-time in College Station, has lost nine-straight to A&M as the Red Raiders’ last win came in a 3-0 sweep on Nov. 18, 2006. Tech also took a five-set victory against the Aggies earlier that year in what is the school’s lone win in College Station since 1998. LOOKING AHEAD The Red Raiders remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Ames, Iowa for a 4 p.m. match Saturday with the 13th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones at Hilton Coliseum. Tech returns to the United Spirit Arena next Wednesday (Nov. 9) to face in-state rival Texas at 6:30 p.m. The match will be aired live locally on Fox News Now, channel No. 9 for Suddenlink customers in the Lubbock area. AGGIES DELIVER ANOTHER HEARTBREAKER TO TECH IN SERIES OPENER Tech dropped its second five-set match of the season Oct. 19 when the Aggies escaped Lubbock with a 3-2 victory thanks in part to a 15-13 win in the final frame that kept the Red Raiders winless in Big 12 play. Amanda Dowdy led the Red Raiders with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 10 digs, while Miara Cave and Breeann David each added 16 and 11 kills of their own. BAYLOR VICTORY MOVES TECH TWO WINS SHY OF FIRST WINNING SEASON SINCE 2001 With its win over Baylor a week ago, Tech is now two wins shy of ensuring its first winning season since 2001 as the Red Raiders have six Big 12 matches remaining along with a non-conference contest at San Jose State. Tech’s 2001 squad finished the year 18-14 en route to earning an NCAA Tournament selection. The Red Raiders will face three nationally-ranked squads over the final month of the season with two of those coming on the road. FLORA EARNS FIRST BIG 12 VICTORY After eight tries, including two close calls, Don Flora earned his first Big 12 victory when Tech defeated Baylor in five sets last week. The first-year head coach nearly led Tech to victories over No. 25 Oklahoma and Texas A&M earlier in the year before falling in five sets. In his 12 totals seasons as a head coach, Flora is a combined 141-18 during conference matches, boasting an .889 winning percentage.
