Team Argos-Shimano Photo Album Season 2013

As always the riders had several training camps at our home base in Altea Hills to prepare for the season. It wasn't all training though as they performed some material tes<ng and had mee<ngs with all the team experts to get everything ready for the season.

..

Day 1.

We kicked off the season in beau<ful Australia, home country of William Clarke. Here we see Koen De Kort in one of the moves."

The first victory in the 2013 season came from the women's team in the Tour of Qatar, when Kirsten Wild finished off some strong teamwork. In this photo we see the team spirit shown aNer winning the golden jersey.

The men's team also visited Qatar and came away with the some different photos. In this shot is Tom Veelers with his new pet.

This win was not only special because it was our first win in Paris -‐Nice, but also because of the dedicated teamwork that went into it. We saw intellect, courage and communica<on in the final. A true milestone for the team.

Tour of Flanders was, much like every year, a true spectacle. It was a cold and windy day and as always we saw some riders walking up the hills. Fans decided that Roy Curvers had the best walking skills of all the riders.

The reconnaissance of the course and tes<ng all the materials is an important part of training before Paris Roubaix. To fine-‐tune the materials and form we had a training day over some of the cobblestones.

We saw this photo and it shows exactly how tough some of the climbs can be in the races that the team rides.

He was one of the most important riders during the race and it was also his own season highlight. Ramon Sinkeldam was in the shape of his life during Paris-‐Roubaix and rode the cobbles like it was a normal road.

The women also faced the elements, but overcame them to successfully take 4 stages in the Dutch Energiewacht Tour, with Kirsten once again showing her blistering sprint. This was the best victory photo of the whole Tour.

We saw a strong Simon Geschke in the Ardennes Classics. A couple of top 20's and visible in different breaks.

The Giro d’Italia was one of the highlights this season for our Chinese rider Cheng Ji as he became the first Chinese rider ever to start in this Grand Tour. Unfortunately he was forced to pull out of the race, but before that he proved himself again as the ‘breakaway killer’.

On the bike you see some amazing places. The Giro d’Italia is always great for picturesque shots. This was our favourite nature photo from the Giro.

Our first victory in the Giro d’Italia with John Degenkolb. It was one of his hardest races that he won this year aNer an incredibly long sprint.

We saw many sprint victories this season, but also some outstanding performances in the mountains. Youngster Thomas Damuseau took the climber's jersey at the Dauphiné aNer being in the break in five of eight stages.

We have seen some TT photos from over the whole season. This photo of Amy Pieters tells everything you need to know about a TT.

Unfortunately none of our riders became a na<onal champion this year, however they did achieve good results aNer strong races. Tom Dumoulin took second place at the Dutch Na<onal Championship.

We will never forget this year’s Tour de France, and Marcel Kidel’s four victories. All of them were symbols of our way of working. We could say that the Team Argos-‐Shimano Express was on the right track. This was our favourite victory photo.

During the Tour de France Koen de Kort cut his hair just like Marcel Kidel. They placed a bet that if Marcel won three stages this year Koen would shave his head just like Marcel. And so he did it.

Teamwork was an important pillar of our Tour de France, with all our riders sharing one common goal and that was execu<ng the best sprint train possible, but also being successful in the breaks. This photo shows the character of our teamwork. Tom Dumoulin and Koen de Kort celebra<ng Marcel Kidel’s victory.

ANer the success of the Tour de France, Tom Dumoulin keep up his form in the World Tour race Eneco Tour. He showed his improvement by wearing the leader’s jersey and finally finishing second, and taking the best young rider’s jersey.

Youngster Lucy Garner experienced her breakthrough in China, taking her first win as a professional. The sprinter from Great Britain was the fastest in the bunch sprint. With this win she showed her talent, but also the step in her development that she made this season.

Victory in the Giro Donne was Kirsten Wild’s highlight of the year. ANer her <me off the bike due to injury it meant a lot to know that she could s<ll win a stage in one of the biggest races in women’s cycling and it confirmed that she was already in good shape not long aNer her <me off the bike.

We had a diverse line-‐up with the Vuelta consis<ng of less experienced alongside experienced riders. One of the inexperienced riders was youngster Warren Barguil who took two stages in this Grand Tour. He is a rider that shows exactly what our team stands for, developing talents into World Class riders.

The first victories of Luka Mezgec, Nikias Arndt, Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg, Francois Parisien and Bert de Backer were the highlights of their respec<ve seasons. They have improved a lot as professional cyclists this season and therefore the photo album deserves a shot of each of them.

The Team Time Trial is a beau<ful yet hard discipline, but one always good for great footage. As well as our men, our women’s team started the World Championships Time Trial. The women’s team had the best technique during the race and on the photo.

The World Championships was a tough day in the saddle in Italy as the heavens opened on the peloton making for drama<c, risky racing. Georg Preidler was in the break and Simon Geschke was our highest finisher.

ANer a long season it is <me to relax. And all the riders experienced some new sports. For example Marcel badling against a Sumo Wrestler.
