From job to job — to the people he works with to the customers and contractors — Christopher (Chris) Wolverton has put the highest value on fostering lasting relationships. As the owner of Wolverton Construction & Development, Chris looked up to and was greatly influenced by his father — a handyman who tirelessly constructed kitchens, installed cabinets and worked on various other home improvement projects. “I grew up with construction at the center of my life,” Chris recalled. “At an early age, I began working with my father, assisting him with tasks — everything from helping him cut materials to holding cabinets during installs. Because of him, I pretty much always knew I would be going into the trades.”

After high school, Chris became an electrician. However, four years later, he was ready to get back into home remodeling, and in 2008, he started his own company.

Wolverton Construction is a family-owned, full-service residential construction and general contracting company that specializes in kitchens, bathrooms and basements. Beyond their impeccable attention to detail and professionalism, their highest priority is the customer. “We treat our customers like family,” Chris said. “There is a level of trust that’s established right from the very beginning. I respect the space that we’re invited into and make it my mission to develop a personal relationship with my customers, which, in turn, makes the whole process a joy.”

With nearly 14 years in the business, the company’s growth is mainly due to its solid referrals. “We are a good company, plain and simple,” Chris explained. “We execute high-end, custom work while keeping in constant communication with our customers; there’s always full transparency in every conversation from start to finish.”

When the construction team is working on a job, they’re typically taking an area and making it better in every way. “I love that we are creating something, making it more attractive, functional, safer — whatever it may be to put a smile on people’s faces,” Chris said.

One of the biggest changes Chris has noticed in the industry is the influence of social media. “People can talk to a group of others that they don’t even know and recommend companies through past experiences,” he said. “This has been huge for us on so many levels. Apps such as Nextdoor function as a hub for neighbors to collect and share information on goods and services in their area. As a result, we have benefited because trusted referrals come to us through this platform.” Chris also said Pinterest is another great application that makes it easier for customers to show his team exactly what they want, taking the guesswork out of most projects.

When Chris isn’t working, he spends a great deal of time at home with his wife, Jacqueline, and their daughter, Gracyn, and newborn son, Wyatt. They live on a 10-acre hobby farm, where they enjoy taking care of their goats, chickens, bees, a donkey and two dogs, Wilson and Ammo.

Chris defines success as simply finding joy in everyday living. “Being successful in business means turning profits and leaving customers happy; however, complete success, to me, is providing for my family and being able to enjoy time with them as much as possible,” Chris shared.

As a young man, Chris learned the importance of the trades, the value of relationships between people and the importance of teaching the trades to younger generations. “I think it’s important for kids to look up to their parents who work in these fields, and learn that not every child has to go college or become a doctor or a lawyer,” he said. “More importantly, the message to kids should be that they can still make something of themselves, even if the college route is not for them.”

Chris’s deep-rooted passion for inspiring young kids as skilled workers motivated him to write a series of children’s books, each focusing on an electrician, a plumber, a carpenter, a roofer and a painter, which are now available on Amazon. “As a result of my father’s influence on me, I wrote these books based on personal experience,” Chris said. Currently, his writings include the My Hero Series, which is part of the Hard Hat Heroes collection.

“I think it is important to truly care about what you do,” Chris concluded. “At Wolverton Construction, that starts way before we even first enter a home to measure or put together a quote.”
