WINTER 2021-22

SWEET V ICTORY

FROM TCSL

TCSL Members, We strongly believe that TCSL clubs are the driver of the player experience, and that it is TCSL’s responsibility to be flexible, nimble and do everything we can to support TCSL clubs and ultimately live up to our mission: to provide the highest quality soccer league experience in Minnesota. Some highlights that support our mission: » This past fall, we welcomed a record 812 teams to the field to compete in the Autumn TCSL league. Many of these teams also competed in the League Cup or Autumn Festival, which culminated over a long weekend (October 15-17) with terrific weather (a welcome change from years past!). » Another 37 13U-14U Minnesota NPL teams began their year-long quest to represent TCSL and Minnesota at the prestigious NPL Finals in July. » Winter competitions (13U-19U NPL and 11U-19U TCSL Winter League) kick off mid-November with many teams set to take the field in indoor facilities across the metro. » Looking ahead, we will work diligently alongside our clubs to evaluate results from this Fall and past Spring, and ensure that teams are properly placed for the Spring 2022 season. We also strive to be more than a league. As such, we hosted an id2 identification event for 2008 boys and girls on September 11 (a recap is on page 7). We also are ramping up our coach education efforts. We have scheduled U.S. Soccer courses this winter (7v7, 9v9, 11v11 and ‘D’ License) and pending approval from U.S. Soccer, will host another ‘C’ License as we did last summer. Read further for more info. As always, we are grateful for your support and will continue to work tirelessly to serve you.

REFEREE CORNER

Have you ever thought about becoming a referee? It’s not too late to try it out!

What’s Next?

Especially in demand are adults who are interested in contributing to a positive gameday environment.

Interested but want to chat about the process? Visit the TCSL Club Directory and contact a Referee Assignor.

Five reasons why you should consider: » Referee with your kids – refereeing can be a great way for parents to spend time with their kids, even for one night a week!

TCSL CLUB DIRECTORY

» Flexibility – you can referee when you want, as often as you want. You choose your schedule.

Ready to get going on your certification? Visit the Minnesota State Referee Committee (SRC) website.

» Exercise – what better way to get exercise than to run around a soccer field for an hour or two?

MN STATE REFEREE COMMITTEE

» Money – very few part-time jobs feature the flexibility nor earning potential of being a soccer referee. » Give Back – think of your time as a young athlete and the impact a good referee had on the game.

PLAYER HEALTH & SAFETY

TRIA’s concussion tips The bad news: concussions are one of the most common soccer injuries. The good news: concussions are treatable when managed properly! It’s important to know the signs and symptoms of a concussion so you and your teammates can recover well if a concussion does happen. Check out these concussion awareness tips from Dr. Aimee Custer, clinical sports neuropsychologist and director of TRIA’s Sport Concussion Program: » Never play through symptoms. If you have any headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue or other symptoms and continue to play, you are more likely to have a longer recovery. » Seek medical attention. Any athlete that takes a significant blow to the head, neck or body should be evaluated. » There are active treatments for concussion. Rest is an important part of recovery, but TRIA’s experts can also help you carefully work through your symptoms and actively make progress toward recovery. Learn more about TRIA’s Sport Concussion Program and common concussion misconceptions at tria.com.
