2. What measures can be undertaken to align the country’s logistical needs with the future outlook and the growth plans envisaged? Infrastructure: Infrastructure is the backbone of every country’s growth and prosperity and for the logistics industry to flourish special emphasis has to be on building world-class road networks, integrated rail corridors, modern cargo facilities at airports and creation of logistics parks which need to be given a status equivalent to Special Economic Zones. Training Institutes – NSDC: It is necessary to realize that the benefits which can be rightly practiced in logistics industry can be brought about by the companies by establishing training intuitions, so that there is improvement in the overall service quality of the sector. Logistics Parks: Logistics Parks can be good option in reducing the turnaround times and goods damage, storage of more and more goods in the same space and serving the markets as fast as possible.

Warehousing: Good storage and Warehousing facilities are important for the growth of the logistics industry. With the increase in the transportation of perishable products, the logistics agencies needs to give a lot of importance to enhancing the Warehousing facilities. Warehousing is required to go to the next level taking into account the changing dynamics of JIT manufacturing, global procurement and new models of sales and distribution. Research & Development: Emphasis on research and development is potent mainly because it encourages the use of indigenous technology which can make the industry cost competitive and can also bring improvement in services thereby using better, effective and efficient services. Particular focus has to be on research in process excellence which can help to eliminate inefficiencies and bring Indian logistics on par with global practices. SAFETY: By the very nature of the logistics industry, there are ever present and inherent risks associated with health and safety. Hence, industry must focus on SAFETY via technology used in vehicles, loading and unloading, etc. 3. What are the infrastructural changes that are needed to bring about a change in the present logistics dynamics in the country? Infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges faced by the logistics sector and has been a major deterrent to its growth. Infrastructural problems like bad road conditions, poor connectivity, inadequate air and sea port capacities and lack of development of modes of transports like railways and alternates like inland water transport and domestic aviation have been constant irritants. Due to the infrastructural bottlenecks costs per transaction usually shoots up. However, presently, the Indian logistics industry is witnessing development and expansion of its existing infrastructure and emergence of e-commerce-specifics logistics solutions. The new initiatives like Make in India, Sagar Mala, and Bharat Mala, etc., are promising initiatives for better future of the logistics Industry. 4. How do you see the future with growing technological advancements becoming an integral part of the sectoral transformation? PDFmyURL - online url to pdf conversion

The transportation and logistics industry has traditionally been defined by trucks and infrastructure, but over the past several years technology has begun to change that. The use of GPS, GIS and GeoFencing technologies is assisting the suppliers to deliver stock on tight deadlines. Overall, the logistics industry is shifting away from traditional, manual, fax-based systems to more mobile and automated methodologies. -Not only are automated systems faster and more efficient, they also provide better data-capture, which can be stored and analyzed to target areas for improvement. For example, hand held mobile devices can deliver wireless proof of delivery and real time transportation monitoring. -Technology like radio-frequency identification (RFID) has also become a popular method of automatic identification and data-capture. Certainly, the technology is assisting in reducing the labor costs by streamlining data-capture and reducing error-prone manual processes. Hence, it’s important for transportation companies to stay up-to-speed with these developments, even those that may be a few years away from widespread adoption. 5. How do you see the Logistics segment five years down the line with the revolutionary changes transforming the sector? From unmanned mobile robots in warehouses to drones for online fulfilment, the current logistics and supply chain is undergoing a major transformation. With the possibilities in artificial intelligence, the future supply chain holds the promise of being completely autonomous and selforchestrated. A fleet of trucks using a swarm algorithm could increase throughput in cargo yards; a trusted peer-to-peer ledger on the blockchain architecture could revolutionize the meaning of compliance in the industry, and a host of wearables, mobile robots, as well as machine learning approaches, could rapidly fasten the pace of order fulfilment. Overall, with the onset of these revolutionary technologies in logistics and the supply chain management will make the whole system leaner, faster and most importantly, self-orchestrated. However, in India especially the adoption of technology may not be as fast as cost vs. benefits even in PDFmyURL - online url to pdf conversion

short-term will be viewed by all users. Moreover, like it was observed between Block storage and rack storage. So, investment in these technologies will remain a deterrent. 6. How can recent technologies like Big Data be used to further boost the performance of the sector?

Data Analytics and Digital Transformation will be the order of the day for all logistics companies and to survive in the current industrial revolution 4.0, they must gear up to adopt these technologies. TCI too recognizes this like the start-up community and is developing capabilities around. Adding more to it, Big Data and logistics are definitely made for each other, and the logistics industry must position itself to put this wealth of information to better use. The pivotal advantage of Big Data is real-time analytics. It complements the end-to-end visibility of the supply chain and enables logistic companies to act rapidly on prospective loss of revenues and profits that could occur at various points in the chai. Analyzing customer data can generate quite useful insights on product placement, pricing strategy, cost & labor optimization, operational risk management, and better delivery. This remains more critical for logistics companies as they are dependent on a network spread across all over India and abroad.
