New Space, Growth for Education Department

By Shea Sutherland

Walking into the campus library, it is visually evident that changes are in the making. “The college is really excited about this,” said Terry Ens, director of facilities operations.

Tabor College’s library renovations are underway to create a new home for the Education Department.

Renovation discussions have taken place over the past few years, and many individuals have participated to make this happen, including Frank Johnson, Academic Affairs personnel, the Executive Team and Facilities staff.

Ens said that his team has diverse talent to build and create.

The main goal for this project is to establish an excellent learning space for those pursuing education, allowing students to collaborate not only within the classroom. A new, refreshing space allows opportunity for growth.

“To excel at a program, you have to have an exceptional space,” said Ens, adding that transitioning the education program to the library will enhance the learning ambience.

Changes will be taking place on the second floor of the library. New additions will include learning tools, lounge space, study rooms, four classrooms and bathrooms.

The projected finish for this design is Aug. 1 to be ready for the fall semester, said Ens.

Although this space will be new, the facilities crew is incorporating Tabor’s history into the environment. Ens said they plan to repurpose the lumber from the gym’s current bleachers for trim once the new bleachers are installed.

“I love to create opportunities for people to excel at what they do,” said Ens. “We will revolutionize the library and student experience.”
