Interterm Trips

by Danielle Allison

Tabor College strives to give their students a globally relevant education. During Interterm 2022, Tabor is sending two groups of students on international trips.

Dr. Lara Vanerhoof and seven students are going to Guatemala on a learning and service trip. The students will conduct biology research and gain real world knowledge in the social work field. The students will experience many different parts of Guatemalan culture and help with all kinds of social issues. They will work with human trafficking, learn how to assist people’s needs in a different culture and work on development projects. Biology students will also have the opportunity to conduct research in the Guatemalan environment. Five students are going to France on an ACTION trip through the Mennonite Brethren missions organization Multiply. The students will stay with different missionaries throughout the trip, including Tabor alumni Paul and Sarah Raugust. The students will reach out to Muslims that live in North Africa by working with a local church in an industrial area of France. This trip will be life changing for the participants, as they will experience serving and ministering to others. While the students are serving, they will be discipled themselves, the goal being to transform their lives. The COVID-19 pandemic has created many obstacles for the students to overcome. Originally, there were students planning to go to Nepal and Thailand along with the France and Guatemala trips. Due to COVID-19, both Nepal and Thailand shut down, causing students to cancel or change their plans. The students still going on trips have obstacles to face. In order to leave the United States, students must either be vaccinated or receive a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to leaving. All students, vaccinated and unvaccinated, must receive a negative test to get back into the United States. Pray for the safety of the students as they serve others and grow in their faith.
