Video Streaming and Production
by Mei Kirchhoff
Tabor College has set the standard for video streaming in the KCAC and its own performing arts department. Riley Ballou-Lyngstad, a recent graduate of Tabor, has taken over this program as the director of video streaming and production. “We want to stream our events everywhere and provide something that most colleges often overlook,” said BallouLyngstad. He added that the hope of this department is to provide a presence in which parents and guests will have the chance to experience live events through modern media. This program came to be when the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts was being built. A video production studio was installed in the CFA with both David Ediger and Chris Glanzer overseeing live streaming. Ediger streamed athletic events, while Glanzer did the fine arts.
Ballou-Lyngstad’s vision for this new and advancing program is to expand Tabor’s webcast on YouTube, and provide a place where parents, alumni and donors are able to keep up with upcoming events whether that be sporting events or performing arts events. Another way he is trying to expand this department is to provide the opportunities for students to work on video streaming and production. Students can do filming on their various cameras or working with graphics in the studio. Through this job opportunity, students can be creative and gain media experience, with freedom to learn on their own with Ballou-Lyngstad’s guidance. A wide-angle camera, a hero camera, a sideline camera and a rotating camera hung in the gymnasium ceiling are just some examples of the equipment allowing Ballou-Lyngstad and current students to produce media content for all to experience.
