Thanking soldiers In recognition of Memorial Day, students at Nesaquake Middle School crafted handmade cards for soldiers.
Members of the Friendship Club made thank-you cards for local soldiers and presented them to Smithtown resident Kevin Pymm, who just returned from deployment overseas.

Fun for the family First-graders at Accompsett Elementary School held a Family Day on May 13. Stu-
dents invited a special guest to visit their school, where they rotated between different classrooms and participated in fun activities. First-grade students and their guests drew portraits, designed a family crest and crafted a friendship bracelet.

oBITUARIeS Ardie Browne
Ardie Browne, of Montpelier, Vt., originally from Lake Ronkonkoma, went to be with the Lord on April 7. Ardie was always a forward thinker and lived a full and rich life. As a young man, he was a lifeguard on Lake Ronkonkoma, swim instructor at Merrywood Pools and a shipfitter on Staten Island. He was a founding member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and long-standing member of the St. James Lutheran Church. He graduated from Wagner College and began many chosen careers and accomplishments, including music teacher and choir director at Smithtown High School. He started the Smithtown Freelancers drum and bugle corps and led the Lakeland D&BC to the county championships. He directed at Act 1 Theatre Workshop and was the owner of Browne Music and Youth Music Services. He returned to teaching at Levittown High School, retired and began a new career in Virginia, raising Scottish Highland cattle. An avid, lifelong sailor on the waters around Long Island and the Chesapeake Bay, he sailed his 38-foot ketch, Our Place, from Michigan to Virginia at the age of 72 and started Let’s Go Sailing Club in Virginia.
Ardie celebrated life as a devoted husband and father, and was an excellent cook, gardener, captain and “Parrot Head.” Predeceased by his children, Pamela Jean and Geoffrey Alan, and his sister, Ada, he is survived by his wife, Karla Bloom; children, Art, Keith (Merle), Laurey (Jeff) Kawalek and Sherri (David) Seyfert; sister, Mary Lou (Neal) Henshall; and his beloved dogs, Paxton and Lilli.
Kenneth Ernes
Kenneth W. Ernes, 66, of Nesconset, passed on May 13. He was the beloved husband of Gail; cherished father of Christie (Ronnie) Hardi and Tara (Tim Sisson) Ernes; loving grandfather of Zoe and Ronnie III; and dear brother of Robert (Donald). He is survived by many other family members and friends. Arrangements were entrusted Branch Funeral Home of Smithtown where a religious service was celebrated. Annina Musacchio
Annina M. Musacchio, 94, of St. James, died on May 17. She was the cherished mother of Kim (John) Keenan, Susan, Laura (Rachel) Albert and Debbie (Bill) Anderson; loving grandmother of Jasmine, Savannah, Raquel, Carlo, Gus, Noah, Leo and Ethan; and dear sister of Mary Rubio. John Giammanco
John S. Giammanco, 85, of Ridge, formerly of Commack, passed on May 16. John was a proud veteran United States Army who served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Rocky Point and the American Legion. He was the beloved husband of Marie; cherished father of John C. (Angela), Kathryn (John) Zagaja, Donna (Edward) Rana, Robert (Mary) and Thomas; adored

Mary Chiappino
Mary A. Chiappino, 93, of St. Joseph’s Guest Home in Huntington and formerly of Commack, died on May 19. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert; loving mother of Frank, George, Brendon (Gail) and John (Michelle) Chiappino; cherished grandmother of Keri (Brent), Kim (Patrick), Darlene (Peter) and Leah; and dear great-grandmother of Eliana and Spencer. Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of The Branch Funeral Home Smithtown and Vigliante family. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Smithtown. Burial of her ashes will take place in Corinth National Cemetery in Mississippi at a later date.
