EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER Summertime at the ECC By Hope Blauner, TBE ECC Director As the weather warms and the school year draws to a close, we’ve been busy preparing for our summer camp program here at the ECC. In a couple weeks, our counselors will send out welcome letters inviting the campers and families to meet before the start of the summer. For seven weeks, our campers will be enjoying time spent outdoors planting in the garden, riding trikes, running and climbing in the playground, splishing and splashing at the water tables and building with the outdoor blocks. New to camp this summer are our weekly themes (Pirate Week, Beach Week and Rainbow Week just to name a few) where the counselors will create fun and excitement around different events. For our incoming 2’s, camp is designed to help ease the transition to the start of preschool in the fall. The children make friends, explore materials and become familiar with the environment and routines. This a wonderful first introduction to school. The summer begins with the parents/caregivers in the room and the counselors will let you know when the children are ready to separate. Counselors work hard to create this “transfer of trust” which allows the children and parents to feel comfortable and safe in their new environment. For our incoming 3’s, much of the day is spent outdoors. The days are longer and the children eat lunch with their friends. On Fridays, pizza and ices are for lunch and all are welcome to join us on the bimah as we sing songs to celebrate Shabbat. Summer has always been a season of fun where we build indelible memories that last a lifetime. Camp at the ECC is where children can explore and grow in a beautiful setting with empathetic and nurturing counselors. We look forward to spending the summer with your children.
