LONDON CALLING Scott’s Restaurant, Mayfair

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai

AN ICONIC PALACE Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo

BETTER BY DESIGN Interiors by Sarah Ward

Welcome to the latest edition of our in-house magazine, Reside.

This year is of particular importance for Beauchamp Estates as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary. Looking back on 40 years of business has offered us the opportunity to reflect on some of our most notable transactions and following our anniversary celebration a chance to re-connect with some of our colleagues, clients and contacts who have allowed us to thrive over four decades.

Considering the political and economic unrest surrounding Brexit there is no doubt that the uncertainty of our immediate future has contributed to a challenging property market. However, all challenges create new opportunities and we have seen an influx of interest from buyers and investors from China, The Middle East, India, Pakistan and the USA who see real value in the UK market with prices c. 20% lower than peak and a currency “swing” of at least 15% - Buying a property in London remains a very attractive proposition. We remain optimistic following the recent sales of a selection of exceptional homes, from one of Regent’s Parks finest Nash villas to a record-breaking sale in the South of France.

Inside this 16th edition of Reside, you will find a selection of the finest properties for sale and to let in Prime Central London and the surrounding areas, together with a selection of the finest homes available through our international offices. We have also curated some interesting editorial pieces and snapshots from our Micro Market reports for you to read and enjoy.

As always, Beauchamp Estates will be delighted to guide your through the sale, purchase or let of your luxury home or investment in Prime Central London or overseas.

scott’s is located in Mount street, Mayfair. Open from midday, the restaurant offers terrace dining and cocktails in Mayfair.

Scott’s is a name that resonates down the years (it is purported to be the second oldest restaurant in London, after Rules): an oyster warehouse founded by John Scott in 1851, by the time it moved to its current location in 1968 it was one of the most fashionable and glamorous seafood restaurants in town, famed as the site of Ian Fleming’s discovery of the dry martini ‘shaken, not stirred.’

Since its relaunch in 2006, Scott’s has once again become the haunt of London’s great and good and has been showered with awards. Martin Brudnizki’s refurbishment of both the restaurant and private room brought a feel of timeless Art Deco glamour to the spaces, reinforced by work specially commissioned from leading British artists. The all day menu in the restaurant also reflects its glittering heritage, serving the very finest traditional fish and seafood dishes alongside a variety of meat and seasonal game favourites in an atmosphere of urbane sophistication.

Beauchamp Estates Founder, Gary Hersham

SUCCESS Celebrating 40 Years Of

Founded in 1979 by Gary hersham, this year Beauchamp Estates celebrated its 40th anniversary. This momentous occasion was marked with a spectacular fashion inspired retrospective exhibition, collaborating with the Gazelli art house Gallery at 39 dover street in Mayfair.

The gallery was transformed with a special Photo Retrospective exhibition, showcasing framed photographs of 40 trophy deals completed by the agency, one for each of the last 40 years, involving celebrities, billionaires, developers and some of the most famous properties in the world. Combined the deals are worth £3.4 billion, based on current values.

Some of the most memorable transactions included Beauchamp Estates’ first deal back in 1979, a property on Upper Brook Street in Mayfair, which sold for £120,000. The estimated value of the same residence today is £3.5 million. One career highlight for Founder Gary Hersham, in 1989 at the height of Thatcher’s economic boom, Beauchamp Estates sold BP’s former HQ Britannic House, a City of London skyscraper now known as Citypoint, to Pillar Properties for a record £198 million – a deal worth £850 million at current values. It was the largest commercial property deal completed in

2009 La Belle Epoque, Monaco the UK that year and remains one of the largest deals ever done in the City office market.

In 2009 in another high-profile deal that caught the attention of the world’s media, Beauchamp Estates was involved in the sale of the La Belle Epoque Penthouse in Monaco for £143.2 million (equivalent to £217 million today). It was (and remains) the largest property deal ever completed in Monaco. The property is now reported to be worth over £255 million.

More recently in 2018, Beauchamp Estates were involved in two major mega-deals. In Washington DC the agency sold a magnificent mansion for £53.4 million, a record transaction for the area which is famous for its grand country estates.

In London’s Belgrave Square the agency sold a grand mansion, originally the London home of the Dukes of Westminster, for £50 million, one of the biggest deals in the UK Capital last year (2018). Due to deals such as those reviewed in the retrospective exhibition, Beauchamp Estates has the highest number of instructions and contracts conducted in London and the Home Counties worth over £10 million and has been listed as London’s No.1 Boutique Estate Agency by PrimeResi for 2017, 2018 and 2019. The firm has won previous accolades for being a market leader, with awards and recognition from Spear’s Wealth Management, EGi, Estates Gazette and Property Week. Reflecting on the past 40 years, Beauchamp Estates has grown from a small office on Beauchamp Place with just two employees to a multinational market-leader with three established London offices, three overseas offices in Cannes, Mykonos and Tel Aviv and an associate office in New York. Beauchamp Estates’ success is palpable, and the company credits itself with having worked with some of London’s finest architects, interior designers and most of Prime Central London’s residential developers resulting in a number of high-value transactions.

Gary Hersham, Founding Director of Beauchamp Estates says: “We are delighted to be celebrating 40 years of success and I am extremely proud of the Beauchamp Estates team and everything the business has achieved over the last 40 years. The market-making deals achieved are a testament to the team’s dedication. We have exciting expansion plans for the future, in both London and overseas markets.”

Alongside the Dior-style retrospective exhibition, Beauchamp Estates produced a limited-edition brochure containing stunning photography and information on the 40 deals and properties. Contact us to request a printed copy. Reside Edition 16 | 23

New CGT Payment Rules On

hMRc is bringing forward the payment date for capital gains tax (cGT) liabilities arising on capital gains made on the disposal of residential property by uk resident taxpayers. The new rules will apply to all disposals of residential property whether by way of sale, gift or transfer into or out of a trust.

Currently, the payment date for capital gains tax is 31 January following the end of the tax year in which the gain arises, i.e. between 10 and 22 months after the disposal takes place. Disposals of assets must then be disclosed on the taxpayer’s self-assessment tax return.

For disposals of residential property completing after 5 April 2020, the payment date for any CGT liability is being brought forward so that a payment on account of any capital gains tax will be payable within 30 days of the sale completing. A special payment on account return will also need to be filed with HMRC at the same time. Penalties and interest will be charged if the 30 day deadline is missed.

Individuals, trustees and personal representatives disposing of residential property will need to have the sales details, or valuations at the date of disposal if the disposal is by way of a gift, as well as the historical acquisition costs and enhancement expenditure readily to hand in order to meet the 30 day deadline.

These changes will apply to disposals of both UK and overseas residential properties as well as residential properties where the capital gain is not fully covered by main residence relief. Special rules will apply to calculate the capital gain for the purposes of making the CGT payment on account.

The disposal will also need to be reported on the taxpayer’s annual self-assessment tax return.

Tax Manager

The team at Cripps Pemberton Greenish is well equipped to streamline this by managing the legal process of property transfer as well as providing help with capital gain calculations and reporting to HMRC. DESIGN Better By

sarah Ward loves nothing more than to engage with her clients around the world, transforming the interior of their homes. Whether creating a striking new kitchen or reinventing the whole living space, her work has life-changing effects. sophie pither talks to sarah about how she and her interior design team work. ‘Good interior design doesn’t age,’ says Sarah Ward, interior designer and owner of Interiors by Sarah Ward. ‘I’ve been looking at homes I designed years ago and actually they still look fresh.’ It’s true. Sarah’s natural design style is elegant, stylish and timeless. Her rooms offer calm tones and clean lines, brought to life with colour and original art, clever lighting, interesting pieces of furniture, and unique fabrics and textures. And there’s always a feeling of comfort. Sarah’s rooms are places you want to spend time in.

Sarah works with a dedicated team of eight, and sources external expertise from talented lighting designers, artists and craftspeople. Exclusive items and fabrics are carefully chosen, gathered, and created for each individual project. There’s input from Sarah, the client and the team. Almost everything is bespoke and comes with Sarah’s personal touch. There’s always a happy pairing of aesthetics and practicality too – after all, there’s no pleasure in perfect-looking rooms if you can’t easily charge a phone, or click on a light to read. Reside Edition 16 | 35

FaMILY BusINEss Sarah has been in interior design for 30 years. Her team now also includes her 28-year-old daughter, Rosie. From a young age, Rosie would voluntarily spend days of her school holidays helping her mum at work, learning skills almost by osmosis. The creative pull of design lured her back from an early career in Tv production, and she now works full time as an interior designer.

‘Rosie’s creative ideas are a little more eclectic than mine,’ says Sarah, ‘But we complement each other well. I’m good at putting the final touches of glamour into a project. And the thing that we all understand is that the main person in any home project is always the client. Yes, we’re there to create a successful design using our expertise, but it’s crucial to really find out what someone likes and dislikes at the start of every project.’

‘We spend a lot of time talking to each client,’ explains Sarah. Every personality is different. Some people are certain of what they want, including colours and arrangements of rooms, whereas others aren’t sure at all. ‘If they come to us with an empty shell – the bones of a building – I call it, in a new build home, or a house that’s being updated, then it can take a few conversations to find that magic excitement around an idea,’ she says. It’s this enthusiasm and interest that then fuels the project forward.

INspIRaTIONaL IdEas For some clients, there will be one or two items that they truly love, and a design will follow from that. ‘A lovely overseas client came to me recently with two huge dramatic artworks,’ says Sarah. ‘She literally needed us to 36 | Reside Edition 16

create interior walls to showcase these pieces, as they didn’t fit in her home as it was. She also had an armchair that she loved. We recreated the interior of her home, using the art and this chair as the starting point.’

Another young couple that Sarah recently worked with didn’t know what they wanted. They had a new house and wanted to update the interior – kitchen, living areas, bathrooms, bedrooms – all of it. So Sarah and her team slowly teased out their preferences, showing them different options for furnishings, details such as bannisters and cornicing, art, fabrics, colours, flooring. Gradually a picture was built. ‘Getting the idea right from the start is crucial to the project being a success,’ explains Sarah. Ploughing on before everyone is onboard with a design can lead to problems later on. ‘We guide people in as gentle a way as possible. It’s a positive process.’

“Good interior design doesn’t age... I’ve been looking at homes I designed years ago and actually they still look fresh.”

EasTERN pROMIsE Sarah grew up in Hong Kong, and still has a connection with the east. ‘I love travel – it always inspires ideas,’ she says. She visits the Far East frequently, having recently spent time in vietnam and Thailand, as well as back in Hong Kong. ‘I am drawn to those rich shades in oriental decorative style – the red lacquer of traditional Chinese design, for example, and subtle use of vintage gold leaf. I find them calming.’ These influences are only ever understated; you wouldn’t enter a Sarah Ward room and immediately think you were in the Far East.

Sarah also visits European design fairs for inspiration; in Milan for wonderful kitchens, Paris – for inspirational lighting, as well as Decorex Interior Design show in the UK. ‘I like to keep an eye on trends, though I avoid slavishly following them,’ she says. ‘I veer towards quality items that I know will stand the test of time.’ Her designs are about creating balance. Not every chair has to match, but each room will offer an overriding feeling of harmony, and tones and textures will complement each other. Over the years, Sarah has built strong relationships with makers of furnishings from sofas to coffee tables. These artisans often design pieces specially for her projects. And because they have a working partnership, it isn’t a wildly expensive option. Sourcing unique furniture, and art, too, creates a feeling of originality in Sarah’s interiors.

LuxuRIOus dETaIL For Sarah, detail is crucial. In fact, she sells her own range of exclusive tableware, which reflects her symbiosis with the east. The collection of opulent tablemats and coasters come in shades of gold, silver, rose gold, dark stormy sky and taupe. She occasionally uses them in her interior designs if they fit, and sells sets as wedding gifts or to companies that furnish serviced apartments, through the Posh Trading Company.

Sarah and her team design luxury hotel interiors, as well as private homes. She says it’s a different process because there are more people involved, and the practicalities change. But her design principles remain the same: harmony, timelessness, and elegance. However, her true love is working with individuals – getting to know them and forming a home that enhances the way they live. It’s not an exaggeration to say that good interior design can change people’s lives. ‘We just want to create as appealing an environment as possible, says Sarah, simply. ‘We work with a brief, and within each clients’ spend and comfort-level, to develop bespoke beautiful home interiors.’ call 020 3667 7796 or email to start the conversation.

When Rolls-Royce announced three years ago that it would launch cullinan, it did so in the knowledge that its customers around the world had asked it to build “The Rolls-Royce of suVs, with luxury, performance and usability not seen before in the suV market. Many of these customers were younger, very successful highnet-worth individuals who are heavily engaged in the experience economy, and wanted a RollsRoyce that would take them to the ends of the Earth in ultimate luxury.

Reside Edition 16 | 53

“Our answer to the visionaries, adventurers, explorers and those who believe in the supremacy of liberty is the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.” Müller-Ötvös

Automotive mobility has always been a fast moving and dynamic business, with new concepts – such as SUvs – appearing with great regularity. But those new concepts need to be perfected in order to be adopted by those customers who will accept no compromise – the patrons of true luxury. Hence the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

“History set our precedent, and today Rolls-Royce answers its call to action,” comments Müller-Ötvös. “Our answer to the visionaries, adventurers, explorers and those who believe in the supremacy of liberty is the RollsRoyce Cullinan.”

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is Rolls-Royce as it’s never seen before. When Sir Henry Royce said, “Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it”, he could have had Cullinan in mind.

“We knew we had to offer our clients what they couldn’t find in the SUv market,” continues Müller-Ötvös. “They do not accept limitations or compromises in their lives. They are the new pioneers, and for them it’s about their sense of adventure and daring in how they live their experiences. This approach to life demands a motor car that can goanywhere in ultimate luxury and style – Rolls-Royce style. Hence Cullinan.” It was clear that these new, younger and more adventurous customers wanted a Rolls-Royce that would take them completely off the beaten track and reward them with life’s most enriching experiences. What they didn’t want was a vehicle as ubiquitous as an SUv with compromises such as increased cabin noise due to the “two-box” formula; shared platforms that affect performance and comfort; the choice of being good either on-road or off-road; or a lower, more featureless SUv that blends in and becomes just another car.

54 | Reside Edition 16

“Cullinan is luxury in its purest form blended with perfect practicality and off-road capability,” comments Müller-Ötvös. “Effortless, Everywhere is not just the promise behind Cullinan. It’s the fact.” The ‘Magic carpet Ride’ taken off-road The integration of new technologies into the architecture was also key to ensuring the fundamental quality of Cullinan as Effortless, Everywhere. The engineering team began by creating a drivetrain that would bring RollsRoyce’s famous ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ off-road.

“The drivetrain system we engineered for Cullinan had one key job to do,” explains Caroline Krismer, Engineering Project Leader for Cullinan. “To bring the famed Rolls-Royce ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ to all other terrains possible, while ensuring class-leading on-road behaviour in the SUv sector.”

Rolls-Royce’s celebrated Magic Carpet Ride impresses off-road as well as on-road thanks to the new lighter architecture, and the latest generation of self-levelling air suspension. Through a thoroughre-engineering of the existing air suspension system – including adding larger air struts with more air volume to cushion the blows of the toughest of terrains – the strengthening of drive and prop shafts, the inclusion of drive to the front wheels as well as the back for the first time in Rolls-Royce history, and the complete reworking of the new 6.75 litre twin-turbo v12 Rolls-Royce engine to deliver just the right level of torque (850Nm) at the lowest possible revolutions (1,600rpm), the Rolls-Royce engineering team has ensured Cullinan will take owners to places no modern Rolls-Royce owner has travelled in luxury before.

The suspension makes millions of calculations every second as it continuously varies the electronically controlled shock absorber adjustment system – reacting to body and wheel acceleration, steering inputs and camera information. A new double-wishbone front axle and 5-link rear axle deliver astounding levels of control over lateral roll and shear forces and deliver incredible agility and stability, as does the addition of four-wheel steering, all contributing to incredible drivability and nimbleness.

In the case of driving off-road, the electronically controlled shock absorber adjustment system uses an air compression system to actively push down Reside Edition 16 | 55

any wheel it detects losing traction to ensure every wheel is constantly in contact with the ground and maximum torque is being provided to all wheels.

“Put simply, what makes the car great on-road makes the car great off-road,” concludes Krismer.

The final piece of the puzzle of ensuring that the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is Effortless, Everywhere is one single button. Known within Rolls-Royce as the ‘Everywhere’ button, one single push is all it takes to harness all the aforementioned peerless Rolls-Royce engineering and unleash all of Cullinan’s off-road capability.

Once engaged, the driver can finesse the off-road setting to glide over any situation, whether it be rough track, gravel, wet grass, mud, snow or sand delivering all 850Nm of torque to all four wheels without interruption. And faced with deep snow, sand or the need to ford streams, Cullinan delivers the deepest wading depth of any super-luxury SUv at 540mm thanks to its highest ride height. One life, many lifestyles Driving to your remote location is simply the first part of the adventure in a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Further enjoyment awaits in the shape of a RollsRoyce Recreation Module.

Imagine the scene. Having chosen your adventure you call down to your garage. “Jason, we’re going to go drone racing today. Can you load the Drone Module into the Cullinan?” Downstairs, Jason selects the Drone Racing Module from the rack containing several other Recreation Modules that the owner has had commissioned from Rolls-Royce to satisfy his or her preferred recreational pursuits.

Fly fishing, photography, rock climbing, snowboarding, parascending, kite boarding, base jumping, volcano boarding or simply sitting and taking in the view, anything is possible thanks to the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective. Easily slotted and plugged into the boot of Cullinan, each Recreation Module contains a motorised drawer housing the equipment and paraphernalia specific to each Cullinan owner’s pursuits. When the owner is ready to play, it presents itself.

vENTURA The Arrival Of

Irish company Ventura design has recently arrived in the uk with the opening of its flagship London showroom at the design centre at chelsea harbour, the home of the most prestigious global interior design brand names.

ventura was founded in 2005 by Creative Director Arlene McIntyre, who with her dedicated team brings years of experience to a varied array of interior design projects - from luxury new build developments to high spec gated country estates and even an historic castle!

Born and raised in California to Irish parents, Arlene brings a distinctive and sophisticated US ‘West Coast’ style to her work, and would describe the ventura look as ‘classic contemporary’ while still being timeless and luxuriously comfortable, tailored carefully to each client’s specifications. “At ventura we believe that homes should be more than just comfortable, they should be interesting and an extension of their owner’s personalities but not instantly shout out the latest trend, but display an understanding and design intelligence about the way people live and use their homes.” explains Arlene. With unrivalled expertise of working with leading estate agents in prime property markets, developers, hotels and private clients looking for a full turn-key service, ventura provides a one stop conception-tocompletion solution.

Highly regarded throughout Ireland for its bespoke furniture range, ventura are now showcasing their range of luxury sofas, chairs, tables and headboards in the capital, as well as offering a complete interior design service for London and the South. “It was important to me that we put ventura on the map in the UK” says Arlene. “While we have long been regarded as the 64 | Reside Edition 16

leading interior design company in Ireland, our arrival in London offers us the opportunity to connect with designers and clients, as well as effectively display our complete furniture range, lighting and accessories in a series of room sets which clients and designers really appreciate.” ventura is now uniquely placed to offer its complete premium project managed ‘white glove’ turn-key service on all of its projects in the UK.

With an expert team of over 50 based in Dublin, the company prides itself on the workmanship of its bespoke furniture, and 70% of the luxurious upholstered pieces and furniture are manufactured in their dedicated workshops in Ireland. With experienced curtain makers, joiners, floor fitters and painters all under one roof, the company can fine tune every last detail for clients. “If a client spots a design in London, New York or Paris that they like, we can reproduce it right here in our workshop - and as we operate on a large scale, logistically, we have everything in place to support that” explains Arlene. “The provenance of our product is very important and ensures that I can oversee the quality and workmanship, and maintain the reputation that ventura has built up over the years - a model which we are now successfully replicating in London and the surrounding counties.”

Arlene, who personally launched Baby ventura, a highly successful nursery furniture range, and a new Wedding Registry service earlier this year sees only optimism and further expansion and diversity for the future growth of the company “It’s a very exciting time for ventura as we expand our range and we are delighted to be able to offer an entire ‘one stop’ shop for busy interior designers and customers in the UK.” To see a wide selection of Ventura bespoke furniture, lighting and accessories visit the London showroom at design centre East, chelsea harbour, London, sW10 0xF Tel 0203 976 9448. PALACE An Iconic

The world-renowned, iconic hôtel de paris Monte-carlo is writing a new page in its history. In the centre of Monaco, the area around place du casino has undergone a huge transformation, giving rise to a new Monte-carlo - with the hôtel de paris Monte-carlo at its heart. a metamorphosis aimed at giving an even greater sense of definition to François Blanc’s dream of “a hotel that surpasses everything created up to now” and of perpetuating the legend in the 21st century.

Reside Edition 16 | 77

78 | Reside Edition 16

“There, is nothing but order and beauty, luxury, calm and sensual pleasure.” Charles Baudelaire

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo was built in 1864 on the arid Plateau des Spélugues, when Monte-Carlo was barely taking shape. Thanks to support from Prince Charles III and Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Etrangers, the billionaire François Blanc took a big gamble and decided to entirely change an area of the city covered in olive trees and lemon trees into a decadent venue of gaming and luxury – Casino de Monte-Carlo and Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. For players travelling from all over Europe to discover the new face of the Principality, he had a hotel built on the model of the Grand Hôtel in Boulevard des Capucines in Paris. Affluence in all its splendour, the international elite rushed to stay - Kings, Princes, Heads of State, Ministers, the very best from governances, industry, science and the arts.

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo continues to be admired by guests from all over the world and bears witness to a lifestyle that harmoniously combines tradition and contemporaneity. Now, it is writing a new page in its history, with the renovation of its interior spaces and bedrooms, the creation of two exceptional Suites and the launch of ÔMER- the new restaurant by Alain Ducasse. A multi-phase renovation has allowed the new features to be exclusively revealed prior to the full reopening in December 2018. Monte-Carlo is being reinvented for the 21st century and a new chapter is beginning.

The first part of the metamorphosis of Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo was its exalted architecture, with a façade that regains its Belle Epoque spirit from 1909. The hotel’s timeless feeling is preserved and enhanced by a contemporary design by the architects, Richard Martinet and Gabriel viora, who put themselves at the service of the building. A monumental porch now decorates the hotel’s entrance, along with a new lift, of which the decorative railing has been reused from an earlier lift in the Lobby, adding a touch of modernity, while giving a second life to historic features that capture the hotel’s soul. Reside Edition 16 | 79

With the addition of more contemporary and greener spaces (including gardens and planted alcoves), Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo now offers its guests the opportunity to relax in a garden setting in the heart of the city. The new Lobby, which was revealed in December 2018, provides direct access to the new open-air inner courtyard called Le Patio. The large central bouquet will continue to delight customers and visitors from all over the world, along with the statue of Louis xIv on horse-back. Guests can spot his shiny knee due to the continuing tradition of touching the horse's paw for luck.

A new roof-top Wellness space opened for guests only in spring 2019, with 370 sq.m. of indoor spaces and 490 sq.m. of outdoor spaces, a terrace, swimming pool and loungers, steam room, sauna, fitness room and bar/lounge area. The new space complements the Hairspa by Rossano Ferretti and the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo, accessible directly from the hotel.

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo has reinvented itself with a new type of bedroom, which is larger, more open and modern. There will be 209 rooms of which 60% are suites, 90% are bedrooms with a balcony or terrace and with a modern or classical design, and 43 are adjoining rooms. Precious materials have been used including Tussar silk for mattresses; chandeliers and lamps in Murano glass; floors in white Calacatta marble and leather from luxury Italian brand, Elite – who comply with very strict environmental standards. The bed linen from Italian company, Quagliotti is woven in Pima cotton or “Silk of the Andes”, a healthy and biological material. The bathroom products are supplied by Guerlain. Lastly, the fruity and captivating notes of Dr. vranjes’ fragrances contribute to the elegant and refined atmosphere of Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. The new bedrooms have superb and varied views including the new tree-planted inner Patio, over the Principality, the Place du Casino, the port of Monaco or across the sea. 80 | Reside Edition 16

The rooms are contemporary and light, with modern decoration and soft shades. Expect furniture with sleek lines in precious wood, with inserts of gilded or patinated brass or glass. Leather, antique mirror, bronze and gold are also included, with a few coloured decorative items and the golden and warm tones of artists’ works add harmony to the whole look. The result is a warm and welcoming ambience, allowing guests to feel at ease.

The furniture is timeless, paired with Louis xvI style pieces for a touch of classicism. Bronze fabrics add a shimmer in the bedrooms and lounges while antique mirror, brass in the mini bars, velvet additions and decorative cushions in precious fabrics add refinement and additional comfort. The luxurious, soft and smooth materials create a room full of light and contrasts, delicately designed with the guest in mind.

At restaurant Alain Ducasse, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has opted for excellence, which led to Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo becoming the first palace in the world to be awarded 3* in the Michelin guide in 1990. Set inside Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, “Le Louis xv-Alain Ducasse à l’Hôtel de Paris” surprises and charms guests with Mediterranean haute cuisine. Alain Ducasse and his Executive Chef Dominique Lory develop “essential cooking” at the restaurant, paying homage to the product and endeavouring to release its perfumes and flavours. Up to 50 guests can choose from an unforgettable menu with an impressive wine list which reflects the destination and Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo - with a cellar containing over 350,000 bottles, showcasing France's best wines from its most prestigious vineyards. On warmer summer days, the restaurant opens out onto an elegant ground-level terrace which overlooks Place du Casino. Like Salle Empire, it regularly takes part in the most grandiose celebrations of the culinary world.

“The wine cellar contains over 350,000 bottles, showcasing France's best wines from its most prestigious vineyards.”

At Alain Ducasse's new restaurant, his second in the Principality, is a new Mediterranean feel. Found on the ground floor of the new Rotonde wing at Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, the restaurant, designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, references the décor of a boat. Consisting of three alcoves and a surprising “Circle of wine”, it overlooks the beautiful hotel gardens, created by Jean Mus, with the sea visiblein the distance. The atmosphere is warm and casual, with a delightful taste of the good life.

Here, more than anywhere else, produce from the land and the sea are intimately linked, which is key to the complexity of this cuisine. With his chef Patrick Laine, Alain Ducasse has created a menu that spans the

Reside Edition 16 | 81

diversity of Mediterranean influences, consisting of dishes which translate this wonderful culinary heritage with a focus on sharing. The menu combines freedom of choice and includes flavours and tastes from Greece, Lebanon, Turkey, Morocco, and Tunisia – with a hint of the Hispanic, Nice or Maltese shores.

For the 2018 festive season, the Salle Empire has also been given a fresh look with a restoration of its paintwork and gilding, and cleaning of its legendary frescoes. Still used as the destination for the most wonderful evening events of the Principality, the listed Salle Empire is the perfect setting for private dinners which can host to 350 guests, as well as concerts and shows for a carefully selected audience. This one-of-a-kind venue in Monte-Carlo has played host to some of the world’s most spectacular and prestigious parties including weddings, ceremony, international meetings, numerous charity galas and memorable celebrations.

With its Belle Epoque architecture and grand steps, the melody in the entrance, the perfumes in the lounges and the sunning spectacle of Place du Casino, people come to see and be seen. Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo offers each guest the chance to experience a story like no other.

Unlike other hotels, Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo has a unique sense of service, where every guest plays the lead role in their own stay. The doormen, housekeeping staff, chefs and maître d’s all strive to personalise each guest’s experience to make it unforgettable. Whether British, Russian, Middle Eastern, Italian, American, French, Brazilian, Chinese and so on, with each visit, hotel guests rediscover that everlasting aspect of Monaco, the magic of renewed rituals and the spectacle, day and night, of the Place du Casino. These precious moments and sensations create a deep connection between the hotel and its guests, creating their own story.
