State posters

For this project, we were tasked with creating posters for three different states in a different style for each. I made posters for Colorado, Washington, and Massachusetts. Colorado is in the Art Nouveau style, Washington is Object or Plakatstil style, and Massachusetts is in the style of Russian Constructivism. For each poster I highlighted multiple aspects of the state.

POpcorn branding

For this project, we were tasked with creating a unique brand of popcorn and create a logo, advertisements, and packaging for that brand. My brand, 18th Amendment, uses the theme of the 1920s/prohibition era. The brand was inspired by corn whiskey and the common element in popcorn - corn.

Superlative Sandwiches

restaurant rebrand

Geoff’s Superlative Sandwiches is a sandwich shop in Providence, RI. For this project, we were tasked with creating a new logo and menu design for a restaurant. Geoff’s is known for their delicious sandwiches as well as a barrel of pickles in the middle of the restaurant. I drew inspiration from their well-known pickle barrel.

Wayfinding

The Wickford Art Festival is one of the biggest art festivals in Rhode Island. Each year, the crowd has difficulty navigating designated parking & artist venues. My goal was to create a comprehensive guide for festival guests.

TORNADOES infographic

Damaging Straight-Line Winds Can reach speeds of 140 mph

Tornadoes occur in many parts of the world, including Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. Even New Zealand reports about 20 tornadoes each year. Two of the highest concentrations of tornadoes outside the U.S. are Argentina and Bangladesh.

WEAK TORNADOES- winds <110mph 69% of all Tornados - Last 5-10min Golfball to Softball-size hail causes several hundred million dollars in damage annually to property and crops.

WIND INTENSITY WEAK TORNADOESwinds <110mph

Tornado Alley is a nickname invented by the media for a broad area of relatively high tornado occurrence in the central U.S.

69% of all Tornados - Last 5-10min

STRONG TORNADOES- winds 110-205 mph 29% of all Tornados - Last 20+ min

VIOLENT TORNADOES- winds >205mph 2% of all Tornados - Can last >1hr

What is a tornado? A tornado is a narrow, violently rotating column of air that extends from the base of a thunderstorm to the ground Because wind is invisible, it is hard to see a tornado unless it forms a condensation funnel made up of water droplets, dust and debris. Tornadoes are the most violent of all atmospheric storms. How Do Tornadoes Form? Before thunderstorms develop, a change in wind direction and an increase in wind speed with increasing height creates an invisible, horizontal spinning effect in the lower atmosphere. Rising air within the thunderstorm’s updraft tilts the rotating air from horizontal to vertical. Most strong and violent tornadoes from within this area of rotation.

What to watch out for: Loud roar, similar to a train Dark, often greenish sky Rotating wall cloud Large hail About 1,200 tornadoes hit the U.S. yearly. Since official tornado records only date back to 1950, we do not know the actual average number of tornadoes that occur each year. Plus, tornado spotting and reporting methods have changed a lot over the last several decades. *All information from NOAA

For this project, the class was given the task of creating an infographic for FM Global featuring tornado statistics. Representatives from FM Global visited our class and chose one project to publish in their magazine and on their website. My goal was to use a graphic style unique to infographics while still providing the information necessary.

TYPOGRAPHY

This is a book of the historic architecture of Providence. The goal of this project was to tell a story of Providence using typography in different ways.

For this project, my group was able to work directly with the Johnson & Wales University Dining Services. We were tasked with creating a unique design for their brochures. Our goal was to make their brochures stand out from other brochures on campus. I decided to use the same design for the Campus Dining Guide and the Care Package brochure. I varied the color palette to make them stand out.

photography These photos are part of a series I did on architecture. The buildings are in North Kingstown, RI. I wanted to show how we neglect architecture with character in favor of repetitive boxes that are used to house big corporations, and what happens when one of those franchises goes out of business.

KICK TV These are some graphics I created for Kick TV. Kick TV is an organization that focuses on soccer around the world. Each week I am asked to create graphics to highlight big events in the world of soccer. I like to use different styles that fit the magnitude of the event and the teams involved.

Paper sample book

For this project, we were asked to choose a brand of paper and make a sample booklet. I chose to use Mohawk’s Via line with a street art style. I used some iconic street art pieces as well as some of my own work, and featured them in the booklet. The booklet features a “waterfall” of the different types of paper in the line as well as stencils of the pieces featured in the booklet.

subscription box

For this project, we created a subscription box, along with a mission statement and a competitors audit. My subscription box is a music-themed box shaped like a record player. Each month, the box will have a slightly different look. I also created a t-shirt, poster and alternate album cover. The logo is based on a vinyl record.

For this project, we were given the task of creating a tourism campaign for a city. I decided to create a mobile app that highlights popular sights and events to see when traveling to Portland, ME. We also had to create a magazine ad, a logo, and an apparel item. For the logo, I used the colors of the city - blue and gold. Since Portland is on the water, I wanted to show a sunset over the ocean. The design is inspired by the light from a lighthouse, and there are 23 points because Maine is the 23rd state to join the US.
