Proposal d2bdp

D2 BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME PRE PROJECT MARKETING BRIEF Background The D2 Business Development Programme (D2BDP) has been developed to promote entrepreneurship in local people and support them to start a business through workshops and one to one advice.

The key objectives of the programme are: • • •

The creation of 120 enterprises Engagement of at least 300 local residents Individuals and communities will have an increased awareness of support available to start a business

A funding application has been submitted to the European Regional Development Fund and we await a funding decision. If approved, the D2BDP will operate from April 2016 across Derby and Derbyshire. The client wishes to procure marketing services to raise awareness of this future programme and to help generate the early cohort of participants. If the European funding application is unsuccessful the programme will not commence and any marketing and selection of potential participants will have to make this very clear. Aim: To engage an organisation / team (the tenderer) to begin promoting the programme to improve the chances of signing beneficiaries up early once/if the ERDF is awarded.

D2 BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

PRE PROJECT MARKETING METHODS: 1. Marketing the project via all appropriate channels to provide maximum exposure of the potential programme Logo and Brand Identity A recognisable logo accompanied by a strong brand will be something that we would like to start with off the cuff... This will be based around the campaign identity and is intended to be a strong brand ready for ‘Stage 2’ of the Campaign hopefully commencing in April (If ERDF Funding is successful). Campaign Identity There are a few ideas that we would propose to explore for the conception of a lively and successful D2BDP Marketing Campaign.

The D2B Angels / Wizards / Heros For this idea we would propose that we delegate upto 5 and no less than 3 business angles (Mentors that can provide some sort of initial advice to potential clients that sign up to receive guidance though the D2B Programme). Although this may seem like a jump in step, it is understood that in order to engage the potential clients and persuade them to sign up to the programme in anticipation of stage 2 guidance in April - they may need some initial encouragement, which will be given in the form of some basic advice and possibly some early ‘dip your toe’ guidance from a few of the D2B Mentors. We suggest the advice provided to the clients is communicated through email & phone initially with a view to steer the clients towards the ‘Engagement event’ which we would like to commence in April, prior to the ERDF funding announcement and as part of the this initial development programme. Brand / Programme Engagement Event For this event we would host business product & services exhibitors, they will be invited along to showcase and provide support to the clients (For this concession they would be charged at a nominal fee for exhibiting). Ideally turning the Development Programme into an event where the potential clients can meet business support providers & D2B Mentors ( ideally 3-5 nominated business consultants from different background - akin to Dragons Den Business Angels recruited in February / March) Alternatively we would propose that each exhibitor will be a ‘D2B Hero / Angel / Wizard’ and market it accordingly.

2. Designing and compose email, website text, newsletter, press release and flyer text February and March to commence with specifically designed marketing collateral geared towards and themed in line with the overall campaign identity. Local residential newsletters to include adverts and individual press releases surrounding the campaign - requesting potential recruits to sign-up for the ‘Development programme’ highlighting the free advice and attendance in April to the ‘Engagement event’ with an aim to have a ‘Dragons Den’ styled Room/area, compromising of the 3-5 Business Mentors listening to the Business Ideas and advising accordingly, with the potential to win some funding as a kickstarter grant... Kickstater Funding This fund is envisaged to be accumulated from the Exhibitors nominal fee. We would like to recruit at least 15 / 20 Exhibitors from different support backgrounds, ie business print / marketing providers. Funding providers, Accountants, Solicitors, Recruitment companies, incubation space providers, website agencies, etc. The cost of £150 to exhibit will give a fund of around £2000 / £3000. This can be split into 4 / 6 funds of £500 each and awarded to 4 / 6 individual start-ups as a kickstarter fund. Possibly an Extra fee of £50 charged to the exhibitor to add an advert in the Event programme magazine...? D2B Angels / Wizards / Heros It is proposed that we create a memorable theme for the Development Programme, giving it both identity and form that is easily recognised and very strong as a serious contender for local and nationally recognition. The initial idea is to have a few, between 3 to 5 Business Advisors, either from business banking background, Chamber of commerce, private and public sector business partners, etc to become the Angels / Hero’s / Wizards... As you can imagine we can create a strong brand based on the theme we choose. Super - hero branded theme / Wizards of Business theme / Business Angels theme...a talking point, a branding direction, a themed engagement event. This will lend to all marketing / micro-websites, adverts, radio advertising, etc. We may even go so far as requesting that the business mentors are dressed on the day of the event appropriately, ie, if the theme of D2B heros is chosen, then we will provide a red cape and eye-masks to the mentors...Fun yet a strong brand engagement...and experiential brand engagement!

D2 BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

PRE PROJECT MARKETING METHODS: 3. Recruiting potential clients to the programme Newsletters / Flyers / Local free magazine / Newspaper adverts / Business rate circulations / Council Tax bills / print marketing... Creating the correct type of marketing collateral will be immediately undertaken alongside branding and mentor recruiting to start the market push towards getting the message out there and the engagement event... Initially we would like to start pushing in February, designed with the chosen theme in mind and to direct the ‘clients’ to an online sign-up form to attend the ‘engagement event’ providing a background of their potential business idea/ startup (Giving us an idea of who the attendees will be). Hopefully with the incentive to meet exhibitors and get exclusive startup offers and free advice and also a potential to present to the business mentors and possibly chosen to get a FREE Kickstarter Fund (please see previous page ‘kickstarter fund’). Flyers / leaflets / etc will be provided to Local partners such as Banks, intermediaries, CVS, DWP & Others as we identify upon the initial programme inception meeting. Adverts in local newspapers, etc 4. Compiling a database of potential clients to the programme and passing the information to the Council Sign-up micro-website / Email campaigns / Sign-up forms / Social Media Creating a micro-website, again branded around the chosen theme, with up to date information and sign-up forms allowing clients to register their attendance and engagement in the ‘Event’.In-turn recording and providing a database of potential clients to Derby Council and also a resource so we can on a monthly basis keep the clients engaged through email campaigns and social media. 5. Managing and delivering any presentations or bespoke events Presentations at Community Events and linking into other local partners Along with the proposed ‘Event’ in April we would suggest we attend local area events and give out marketing material / breakfast business meetings / Derby Hub / Other Business Expo’s... 6. Composing evaluation / notes or minutes after engagement events Production of final report to summarise activity We will provide summarised and full reports as requested at designated times and as deemed necessary by the steering group / stakeholders. A database of client information will be provided for use by the Council, with a full report provided for the end of this programme with conclusions and findings ready for evaluation.

D2B

7. Further Roadshows Engagement Activity suggested after the successful ERDF Award Suggested further Marketing, with a full roadshow to different areas to engage the community to reach the desired minimum 120 Enterprises & 300 local resident engagement...Extensive advertising of the Programme through the methods that gave the best results in the initial 3 months marketing. Imroved marketing through websites development, Cinema advertising, Bus advertising, Lamp-post banners, informative events, etc.

• Build and improve your business • Increase your turnover, profits and customer base

!  When the brand mark appears we have created minimum clear space guidelines – ‘clear zones’. This is an invisible barrier around the brand mark that should be the width of the chevrons (NatWest) or daisy wheel (RBS) !  No other elements should enter this clear zone at any time. Minimum size

! The minimum size of the brand mark when in print is 5mm high. We never use it any smaller than this.

!  Please always use the approved master artwork and never separate the chevron from the logotype or vice versa. !  Our brand mark has most impact when there’s a certain amount of space around it, letting it stand proud on the NatWest Blueberry background. !  Our preferred option is to use the joint NW / A4B or RBS / A4B logo. In the rare instance where materials are joint branded with RBS and NW – you should you them without the A4B strapline. !  The colours should not be amended in any way or the chevrons / daisy wheel removed !  The Ahead for Business word mark should never appear in isolation without the NW / RBS logo. !  There are 2 colour options of each and a digital / non digital version these are marked as appropriate but if you are unsure please always ask first.
