Civil Ceremonies There are many reasons why you might chose a civil wedding – perhaps you have no religious beliefs, it might be your second marriage or perhaps you want to get married somewhere a bit different. What is a Civil Ceremony? • It contains no religious elements or anything with religious connotations. • It is conducted by the Superintendent Registrar or Deputy and registered by the Registrar or Deputy. • It can take place in a Register Office or a venue that holds a civil license, after 8am and before 6pm subject to Registrar staffing arrangements. • The service can last anything from 10 - 30 minutes. • The Registrar has to receive an “Authority” for your marriage to be able to proceed, which can only be obtained by giving a notice of marriage. Provisional bookings can be made with the Registrar for the date and time of the wedding, up to a year in advance. The earlier you do so the more likely you are to get the date you want, Registrars are busy people and they attend both the Register Office and civil venue. Remember that some Register Offices only have part-time staff Civil Ceremonies usually no later than a month before your wedding. It may also be possible to have non-religious music played as part of the ceremony and even to make an entrance into the ceremony room on someone’s arm with attendants. • Topics such as parking, flowers, confetti, photographs and video are also discussed with the Superintendent Registrar.

• Register Offices and civil venues have maximum numbers of guests that can be accommodated for safety reasons, and that includes babies and children. You will therefore need to decide who to invite to the ceremony and who to invite to the reception. This should be made clear on your invitation. We are delighted to offer a choice of function suites, which are all suitable as an elegant setting for your Civil Ceremony. The hire charge and capacities are detailed below The Great Room Maximum of 180 guests Room Hire Charge £300.00 The Pipers Room Maximum of 80 guests Room Hire Charge £150.00
