The 50th Anniversary of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale is truly a cause for great celebration. The Derby Sale presents the cream of Ireland’s select store crop. We are indebted to Ireland’s store sale vendors who choose to sell their stock at Tattersalls Ireland. We could not provide our purchasers with such depth of quality without the support of vendors. We are thankful to our broad base of purchasers, from Ireland, the UK and further afield, who return year after year in pursuit of success. We are confident the Tattersalls Ireland 50th Derby Sale will exceed all previous editions, and our team will deliver an unmissable sale. The Derby Sale is Ireland’s Premier Store Sale. Its reputation is built on results, and our clients have demonstrated their confidence in the Tattersalls Ireland store product by returning year after year in search of their future champion. We welcome back our regular clients, but also look forward to forging new relationships and extending a warm Tattersalls Ireland welcome to potential new clients. The team takes great satisfaction in following the success of our graduates. A sale is judged on racecourse results, and the 49 previous renewals of the Derby Sale have produced an abundance of winners of graded races, including winners of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and Aintree Grand National. All of our purchasers are searching for the horse to take them to these prestigious races. We take great pride in the history and prestige associated with the Derby Sale. We acknowledge colleagues before us who’s contribution helped to elevate the Derby Sale to Ireland’s premier Store Sale.

ANNIVERSARY

It’s over 40 years since Little Owl and Silver Buck became the first Derby Sale graduates to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup. The 1990’s produced Gold Cup winners such as Garrison Savannah, Jodami and Imperial Call, while War Of Attrition has since become another Derby Sale graduate to land the blue riband of National Hunt racing.

Dual Champion winner Moscow Flyer was purchased at the 1998 Derby Sale, while Aintree Grand National graduates to have been sold at the Derby Sale include Hallo Dandy, Miinnehoma, Royal Athlete, Monty’s Pass, Rule The World and One For Arthur. Over the past 10 National Hunt seasons, the Derby Sale has produced the winner of 106 Grade 1 races. The headline graduates to have passed through our sales ring in recent times include multiple Grade 1 winner Cue Card, five-time Grade 1 winner Jonbon and six-time Grade 1 winner Shishkin, two-time Champion Chase winner Energumene, and dual champion hurdler Honeysuckle. We look forward to seeing the 2024 graduates emulate these champions. Derby Sale success has not been limited solely to the racecourse. Our sales figures have hit significant milestones in recent years. This again demonstrates the demand and confidence in the Tattersalls Ireland product. The 2023 Derby Sale average was the highest produced at any Store Sale and the top price of €265,000 was the highest priced achieved for a store at any sale. The 2022 edition of the sale saw total spend exceed €18 million. The objective of our inspectors is to produce a catalogue that demonstrates the premium position of the Derby Sale within the store sale market. We look forward to commencing inspections and formulating the Tattersalls Ireland 50th Derby Sale catalogue. On behalf of the Tattersalls Ireland team, I look forward to welcoming you all to the 50th edition of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale on the 26th and 27th June.
