We divided our vision for the Tornhøjskole into four cate gories: Access & linkages, Im age & identity, Sociability, and Uses & activities. We devel oped these categories fur ther in order to find out the initia tives that we needed in order to achieve our vision. The outer circle represents initia tives for how to achieve the visions. The initiatives for the Sociability and Uses & activity are connected, because socia bility is achieved through the uses and activities.

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

Our vision for this project is to enhance the current potential of Tornhøjskolen to achieve an equity in education. T herefore, it is impor tant to increase the sense of ownership of the community towards the school. Thus, co-creation should be the process and implementation of this project, since it involves all stakeholders through the whole process, including the community, parents, teachers pupils, organizations, the municipality, etc. Ultimately the school should become a landmark in Aalborg East, a place the community is proud to have. To give more space for activities the current school buildings will be demolished and the new school will be rebuilt as a three-storey building, which contains both a kindergar ten and the school.

Aalborg East is already nearly as highly populated as the city center of Aalborg and is soon to be the biggest district of the city. Existing plans for development foresees and encourage increased density of the area, due to revitalization on unprecedented scale. Ongoing numerous investments creates an opportunity to use the current potentials of the area to uplift the community. It is important that the development of the area helps making the residents of Aalborg East proud of their community and feel ownership of their district. The result of the developments should be that current residents prefer to live in this district. While some investments create positive changes within the health system and other investments improve communication and connectivity, there is one area in Aalborg East that is yet to be developed - Tornhøjskolen. The school is the heart of the community, therefore, in order to fully uplift the community, the school should be enhanced along with the development of the Tornhøj Tunnel and the new Health and Community centre.

FINAL GRADUATION PROJECT 2011 | UNIVERSIDADE PRESBITERIANA MACKENZIE | SP BRAZIL AUTOCAD | PHOTOSHOP | 3D MAX

The main theme for my thesis was the permeability of the blocks, pedestrian movement and configuration of public space. The area chosen for my proposal was located in the neighborhood Vila Buarque, in the district of Republica, near the subway station of the same name. This neighborhood can be considered as a transition zone between the Center and the West of the city and has several structural routes of great importance for the city of São Paulo due to its connections. Although pedestrian traffic is constant in the morning and afternoon, in the night, the area looks abandoned and walking through the neighborhood around this time is considered dangerous. The lot, located in the city center, sets up what is called “urban void” in a region with a large pedestrian flow and low permeability between the blocks. The buildings occupy the lots lining up to the sidewalks, preventing a more diversified stream. The result of my thesis was a project of a Multifunctional Bulding with Apartments for families and students, as well as a Public Plaza suspended with connection to spaces open for the public containing library and workshop rooms. The bulding was located in two empty lots in the center of Sao Paulo. They were both being used as car garage during daytime. The project adopted a new housing characteristic. The building was raised off the ground floor, enabling the configuration of a plaza in elevation, while proposing the “infiltration” of the city into the building, carrying equipment for public use within the building.

As the city grows more its borders, so does its buildings and its built space area also, making the city centers sealed and suffocating. A new city model should be adopted, where the city is detached from the horizontal plane and passing into the vertical plane. Transforming the ground floor open and permeable and also creating living spaces.

SOCIAL HOUSING 2009| UNIVERSIDADE PRESBITERIANA MACKENZIE | SP BRAZIL AUTOCAD | SKETCHUP

In the 7th semester of my education in Architecture and Urban Planning at Universiade Presbiteriana Mackenzie I developed and designed social housing in a low-income neighborhood in Sao Paulo named Guarapiranga. The project, is located in the southern metropolitan area of Sao Paulo next to the Guarapiranga dam. The area is pivotal to ensure the drainage of an area of almost 64.000 hectares, as well as provide water for 3.8 million of citizens living in the southern areas of Sao Paulo. However, since the 1970s the area has been neglected and illegal housing (slums) have been constructed, occupying protected which contributed to a negative impact of the environment. Although in the 1990s there has been investments towards the regeneration of the region, which included the construction of basic infra-structure towards water treatment and waste management, such investments have been insufficient to curb the severe and complex problems of Guarapiranga. The project aims at revitalizing the area through the re-zoning of Guarapiranga into a mixed zone (currently is residential zone) to ensure a livable and diverse neighborhood. In that sense, affordable social housing will be developed to ensure current residents remain in the area while providing decent housing. The Housing complex has 5 types of apartments aimed at diverse families and residents. Such types have been developed after interviews with residents, community members and public actors that have a deep knowledge of the area.
