INTRODUCTION
Dear Reader, OFF_PRESS started with a group of young Polish London literati in early 2009, as an antidote to the lack of quality, original publishing options for multilingual writers in the 21st century. We launched OFF_Lit’Comp’09, an international creative writing competition, and are now publishing the ten best entries in this dual-translation anthology. The book contains prose and poetry from some of the most promising literary voices around the world – England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Poland and the US – all ten presented here in both English and Polish. As OFF_ grew and attracted artists from other fields and nationalities, we decided to add a little extra to each book we print. With a test batch of 50 copies, in October ‘09, we took a road trip right across Poland – Sam from the US, Lilian from Germany and Marek from Britain went on a

seven-day tour of seven cities, meeting all the Polish writers in the book, holding literary events in bars, bookshops and medieval basements, filming it all as we went along. The film we brought back, on DVD, and thanks to everyone we owe, can be found at the back. This is our first stab at publishing, translations and film production – everyone who shared their talent and time with us did so without any pay or ambitious promises, only meaning to show community arts, on a global scale, can deliver. At the start of 2010, OFF_PRESS is still focusing on translations from Polish into English, but in time we mean not just to move on to other tongues, but also expand into film and live events, producing quality narratives in many formats which go beyond conventional borders and book markets. Wstęp
Drodzy Czytelnicy, OFF_ powstał jako dwujęzyczny magazyn internetowy w lutym 2009 roku. Rozpisaliśmy konkurs literacki OFF_ Lit’Comp’09, w którym wyłoniliśmy 10 najlepszych prac, które mamy przyjemność zaprezentować w tej dwujęzycznej antologii. Książka zawiera wybór świeżej poezji i prozy które nadesłano do nas z całego świata, m.in. z Nowej Zelandii, Pakistanu, Polski, Stanów Zjednoczonych i Wielkiej Brytanii. Wszystkie teksty publikujemy zarówno polsku jak i po angielsku. W październiku 2009 wydrukowaliśmy 50 kopii antologii i zabraliśmy je w podróż po Polsce. Przez siedem dni podróżowaliśmy po Polsce spotykając się z autorami publikowanych tu tekstów, organizując wieczory literackie, żeby w ten sposób lepiej poczuć i zrozumieć ten kraj.

Płyta DVD z filmem z naszej podróży znajduje się na końcu książki. Chcemy w tym miejscu ogromnie podziękować pisarzom, którzy wzięli udział w tym przedsięwzięciu, oraz wszystkim tym, którzy umożliwili nam podróż do Polski – Wasza gościnność i hojność wynagrodziła nam cały szaleńczy wysiłek.
