Notes One of the best-selling songs of all time, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! was written in 1945 in Hollywood, California during one of the hottest days on record. Thanks to its seasonal lyrics and cheery, holiday feel, it’s commonly regarded as a Christmas song, but really, it’s a love song that never mentions Christmas. This arrangement for marimba and vibraphone conjures the sounds and atmosphere of snow falling, from which the melody emerges. I imagine a cold, snowy evening outside a cozy home filled with the light of the fireplace. As the third verse comes around, we take a peek inside the window, experiencing the warmth of the fire for a moment. But as the song says, the fire slowly dies away for the evening, and we wander on into the wintry night.

Oh the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful And since we’ve no place to go Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! It doesn’t show signs of stopping And I’ve bought some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss goodnight How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight All the way home I’ll be warm The fire is slowly dying And, my dear, we’re still goodbying But as long as you love me so Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
