On The Reel presents

“Sticks & Stones” 11 Febrauray - 4 March Sticks & Stones delves into the modern man; sexuality, family, stereotypes and personal inner demons - all as a result of the one thing that is truly promised to us all. Our two players are dead and in a waiting room, that’s monitored by a voiced receptionist. For them both to proceed to where ever it is they go next, they must come to exact conclusion of how they died…a ‘conclusive detail.’ During this process their degree of separation is uncovered. This newly discovered grounds ignites them, bringing alive many events and actions they each played out in life. Beliefs are broken and new realities are made - never to be left to die wondering. EXHIBITION / MIXED MEDIA

“BurlyBearyBeefyBlokes” by Peter Skirrow 1-6 March The love and admiration for the larger, more hairy heavily built male is the subject of Peter Skirrow’s latest exhibition “BurlyBearyBeefyBlokes”. In his art Skirrow explores two taboo areas. The admiration of strong and hyper masculine men is well accepted in our sports loving nation. But these men are more often than not a sanitised version of what masculinity is all about. Where is the smell of sweat, the rugged faces, the heavy package of trouser trouble, the overt sexuality of man as animal? Where is the vulnerability & emotion between these masculine men and their lovers? Forget the sports pages. Forget the social pages. They are to be found in Peter Skirrow’s sensual and sexual works. “BurlyBearyBeefyBlokes” features stylish black & white graphite drawings, watercolours, works in coloured pencil and in other media, and is probably Skirrow’s most arousing & sexually charged work to date.

For the last 19 years many of Australia’s foremost artists, including Andrew Logan, Carlos Barrios, Mark Hanham and James Powditch have launched their exciting careers, with many more artists are preparing to exhibit in the future. The TAP Gallery’s vision is a simple one, and that is to support Sydney’s arts scene by providing a workable and an affordable space for artists to exhibit. TAP supports all forms of art at a grassroots level making it a popular destination for artists and art lovers alike, which exemplifies TAP as credited with being voted the Best Art Gallery in Sydney for artworks under $5,000 in 2008 & 2009. TAP stages regular Art Prizes and group shows to give artists an opportunity to participate and be involved. Situated in close proximity to the CBD, TAP provides a flexible space with two levels, comprising different exhibition rooms. The gallery operates on a space hire basis, and includes a theatre showcasing the work of many fresh playwrights. Although TAP has over 900 sq metres of fantastic space, it can be adapted to any size with the use of movable walls to cope for smaller or larger shows. TAP offers an opportunity for the community to meet artists, actors, film makers and playwrights. It is a well known meeting place which also has a café/bookshop for relaxation.
