Southeast Asia is a captivating and diverse cultural crossroad that forms both a geographic culinary link in the middle of Asia and the Indian subcontinent. To travel and intersect a border in the area is to take your taste buds to another world completely. Broths, noodles, and rice can be found in almost every Southeast Asian cuisine, and so can the smells and sounds of deep-frying and stir-frying. Rather than a series of courses, most meals are served “family-style,” where all dishes are set on the table and everyone is encouraged to take a bit at a time. This blend of food and family is a huge part of many Southeast Asian cultures. Sharing is caring! You don’t have to travel far to experience the cuisine and culture. In Edmonton, the Southeast Asian influence has grown extensively over the years, adding spice, colour, flavour, and variety to the local food scene.
