Born in Pittsburgh and based in San Francisco/Hong Kong, Zawitz’ career spans over forty-years. After receiving a degree in Fine Art Sculpture and a double minor in Asian Art History and Asian Philosophy from the University of Hawaii, he travelled and studied extensively throughout Asia—specifically Japan, Thailand, India, Nepal, and Tibet. The global scope of these early experiences left a profound influence on his artistic practice and worldview. The Infinity series that provide the core of Zawitz’ inventive oeuvre are produced through a sequence of tangent angles, jointed together. Inspired by the design principles of the Tibetan Knot, this series of 90-degree curves can be manipulated into an infinite number of tangled shapes. Zawitz’ artwork has been showcased in multiple solo exhibitions and is held in numerous private, public, and corporate collections internationally. Developed in 198889, the artist’s multiple, Tangle, has sold over 150 million editions to date. Research advanced through the Infinity sculptures has proved significant to world-renowned scientists and mathematicians, particularly those working in the fields of quantum entanglement and knot theory. Upcoming projects aim to monumentalize the Infinity series through public commissions.
