Boy Mauled By Hyenas Gets New Nose Grafted By South African Specialists
The 9-year-old boy from Zimbabwe who was attacked and mauled by a hyena has received a new prosthetic nose following facial reconstruction surgery.
Police at Mahwelereng, outside Mokopane, in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for four awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the police cells. Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said officers in Mahwelereng outside Mokopane were alerted to the incident on Sunday evening by inmates. Mohammed Nasir, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested shortly after the decomposed bodies of Chantelle Ash and her nine-month-old daughter Tasneem were discovered by a receptionist at a lodge on the R518, near Masodi village. Motlafela Mojapelo said police were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape. “The suspects were arrested for serious and
violent crimes and, as a result, community members are advised not to attempt to arrest them if they have information about their whereabouts, but must instead contact the police,” Mojapelo said. Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that four men escaped from a holding cell, but did not confirm the particulars. He said the four men who have escaped are: 1. Bangladesh national Mohammed Nassir (29) who was arrested for murder that took place in January. 2. Zimbabwean national Stanley Chiteya (38) who was arrested for business robbery that took place in November 2020. 3. Zimbabwean national Dexter Tinashe (26) who was arrested for business robbery that took place in November 2020.
4. South African Joseph Hlongwane (37) who was arrested for house robbery and rape which happened in September. “Investigations into the circumstances of the escape have already commenced. The suspects were arrested for serious and violent crimes and as a result, members of the community are advised not to attempt to arrest them if they have information about any of their whereabouts but must instead contact the police,” Mojapelo explained. He urged anyone with information about these escapees to contact investigating officer Lt Col Sekanka on 082565 8505, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or their nearest police.

Rodwell Khomazana had his new nose grafted by South African specialists at the Capital Prosthodontics and Henk Cronje of Dura Art Dental Laboratory in Pretoria. Rodwell was badly disfigured when he was attacked and mauled by a hyena during an all-night prayer meeting in Zaka in May. After the horrific attack, he was transported to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where the staff were able to save his life. When his condition stabilised, Rodwell was airlifted to South Africa for extensive reconstruction surgery. Over the weekend, the nine-year-old underwent surgery to implant the new nose. Rodwell was sponsored by The Smile Foundation and medical practitioners, who included Dr Avish Jay Jagathpal and his team. Speaking on the surgery, Dr Jagathpal told The Star, “From the day I had met Rodwell, I knew that making him a prosthetic nose will be a challenge. The biggest hurdles to overcome were the multiple grafts from different parts of his body that introduced many different colours to the palette, and his age meant that the size of his face will change drastically over the years to come.”

Jacob Mamabolo condemns Editors Note: Is lobola still relevant for women? incidents of taxi violence in Hammanskraal The practice of a groom paying the bride’s family in cash or cattle in the lead-up to the wedding inevitably brings the emotion of love firmly in line with your wallet.
Police are investigating a shooting that left four members of the Simunye Taxi Association dead at the Rainbow Shopping Centre at the weekend. It is alleged that two men driving in a white Audi hatchback opened fire before fleeing the scene and no arrests have been made. MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo has strongly condemned the murders. “We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of this barbaric crime at the hands of ruthless and blood thirsty criminals. We call on those who may have leads to come forward and assist the police in apprehending those behind the murders. “We condemn those who orchestrated the murders which have robbed families of their loved ones. These elements are doing the taxi industry a disservice and continue projecting this industry as an inhumane and
violent industry,” the MEC said. 72-Hour Activation Plan Mamabolo further commended the police for launching their 72-Hour Activation Plan to ensure that perpetrators are arrested and that they face the full might of the law. “We believe that those who continue using violence are becoming isolated in our province as more leaders in the taxi industry reject such barbaric methods in their business. While this incident is disheartening, it will not stop us in our efforts to rid the industry of murders,” Mamabolo said. He said the department has adopted an open-door policy that allows taxi operators a platform to raise their concerns without the use of violence. “This is in line with its Growing Gauteng Through Smart Mobility vision which has prioritised support mechanisms to assist the taxi industry to modernise and shed its negative reputation and become sustainable.”
Hunt still on for suspects who killed man and woman travelling in red Ferrari
Would you be willing to go into debt to meet the lobolo requirements for the one you love? Most of our readers said no. “If the woman decides to leave one day, she’ll leave me with debt,” said one respondent, who paid R60 000 for lobolo from his savings. Another reader, who said he would not borrow to pay for lobolo, commented: “In my culture lobolo is a lifetime commitment. Even if you paid the whole amount, you will forever financially take care of your in-laws one way or another, for example paying for their burial, and [other] needs. All this requires one to work hard and not take short cuts.” A reader who saved R50 000 said that borrowing money to cover the expense would “make no sense. This would mean my wife
would have to assist in paying it back,” he said. Jokes aside, though, the tradition is worthwhile, I think lobolo is a great practice, provided it is not unreasonable and not rushed. In the end it is about showing respect to your lady’s family and them in return respecting you.
Nandi Nyembe – “I am well and alive” Veteran actress Nandi Nyembe has been spending most of her time this week proving to people that she is not dead.
This came after people took her onscreen death into real life. Nandi Nyembe was killed in the eTv show House Of Zwide where she played MaZwide. But some people thought she had died in real life and sent condolence messages to her family. This incident sparked the rumours that she had also died in real life. “I am well and alive. There is not even one part of my body that is in pain. The news of my passing came as a shock to me, and really unsettled the people around me. I can’t believe one can run with such a malicious story, and even added my age. People broke into tears when they heard my
voice when I answered the phone, and some were even afraid to call me. They resorted to calling friends to confirm the news,” she said.
Couple applauded for spending R70 at Home Affairs on their wedding
A woman and a man travelling in a Ferrari died in a hail of bullets in Soweto on Sunday. At least 15 shots were fired at the Ferrari. The two, aged 21 and 41, were on the corner of Chris Hani and Klipvalley Road on Sunday at about 22:00 when a Toyota Etios blocked them, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said. Masondo said the Toyota had an unknown number of occupants, who fired several bullets at the red Ferrari before speeding off. Both victims died at the scene. Police were investigating two cases of murder and no arrests have been made. “We appeal to the community to assist the
police with any information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects. They can contact the Moroka police at 011 527-0000 or 08600 10111,” Masondo said. It’s not yet known how the two were related as Masondo said police could not confirm if they were in a relationship. The shooting comes two weeks after a police reservist and her boyfriend were shot dead in a Ford Mustang while driving in Soweto. News24 reported that the gunman then went home and turned the gun on himself. The woman was a police reservist working at the Diepkloof police station. The Ford Mustang owner was believed to have been a forex trader while the gunman was a taxi owner suspected to have been the woman’s ex-lover.

PSL apologises for Bafana coach Hugo Broos stadium access fiasco The Premier Soccer League has accepted blame and apologized for the bizarre incident that led to the South African senior national team head coach Hugo Broos being unceremoniously turned away from Orlando Stadium on Saturday. Broos featured on national television on Monday when he was in studio to announce the 23-man squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia. He preceded the announcement by sharing an upsetting experience he and an assistant coach had been subjected to on Saturday. They were denied entry to the DStv Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Broos intended to run the rule over players he felt could be called up for national team duty. Instead, the personnel at the entrance gate warned him they could lose their job if they allowed entry. The fact that Broos and the assistant had PSL accreditation mattered little to the gatekeeper. The Premier Soccer League has issued a statement to apologize to SAFA and Broos. The Premier Soccer League learned of an unfortunate incident in which the South African senior national team head coach was denied access to the DStv Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, 25 September 2021. ‘The incident is highly regrettable, and the League has apologized unreservedly to the South African Football Association for the unfortunate occurrence. ‘The PSL immediately investigated the matter and established that the confusion was caused by the League’s failure to inform the host club about the head coach’s attendance as per protocol. ‘Over the past two months, an arrangement has been in place between the League and SAFA to allow the head coach to attend matches whenever he needs while continuing to ensure compliance. The arrangement has functioned well until thus far. ‘On this occasion, the League regrettably erred and will ensure that this does not occur again.’
