Working with a fictional client, the Local Accent focuses on designing an apparel manufacturing facility that not only emphasizes garment production, but also apprenticeship. Acknowledging the evolving nature of the fashion industry, it establishes an intimate system that motivates and opens opportunities for local parties; rising designers, employees from a low-income background and students. Areas of the space are designed to facilitate the process of producing garments to highlight craftsmanship such as a sewing area that is ergonomically comfortable to enable seamless making and learning. It also calls community members to enter the space through lunch and learn experiences to facilitate the concept. The space focuses on collaborative potential with the intent of enabling a social exchange of skills and knowledge to strengthen local relationships and build a small community of its own.
