Estonia is slightly larger than Kyushu island. We have four distinct seasons from freezing winters to warm summers. Our biggest asset is our people. We speak Estonian, one of the world’s smallest official languages, but many of us speak up to 5 different languages. Estonia is also the world’s first country to function as a digital service. 99% of our state services are available online 24/7. Having 4th best urban air quality in the world, Estonia is one of the cleanest countries and our untouched wilderness is accessible to all. Forests cover over half of the country and from any point, the nearest bog is always less than 10 km away. Estonian culture is rich in contrasts and mixes old traditions with novel ideas. Tallinn old town and our Song and Dance Festival are part of UNESCO World Heritage to name a few. By culture consumption, Estonia is one of the leading countries in Europe.

07. オーガニックへの高い意識。
WHO の調査によると、エストニアは最も空気が美しい国の一つとされており、初めて訪れた人の ほとんどが、まずその澄み切った空気と、空の青さに感動を覚えます。国内の森林の 40% 以上は、 オーガニックな食物の採集可能地域。これにより、オーガニック製品やオーガニック食品の開発 も積極的に行われています。
08. デジタルが国家を支える「e-Estonia」
90 年代初頭にわずかな財源から始まった「e-Estonia」は、現在国内の 99% の公共サービスをオ ンライン上で提供するまでに発展。屋台骨となる X-Road（世界各地でデータを自動的に交換でき る世界初のデータ交換プラットフォーム）技術をベースに、さまざまな e ソリューションを展開 しており、ペーパーレスや環境資源の保全、経費削減にも役立っています。
エストニアの人口は約 132 万人。国土は日本の 9 分の 1 というとても小さな国ですが、それが逆 にアドバンテージになることもあります。例えば、大規模なシステム開発のための試験用プラッ トホームとなる「テストベッド」としての有用性は抜群。また、大国では実現し難い新しいシス テムの導入にも柔軟性に対応できます。

2017 年の世界経済フォーラムで、 「エストニアは、ヨーロッパにおいて最も起業が盛んな国である と発表されたように、エストニアの人々は革新的で創造性に溢れた精神の持ち主です。国全体でデ ジタルを活用する「e-Estonia」をゼロから構築。一方で、国民食であるライ麦パンは、人々がそ れぞれに隠し味を加えたオリジナルなものにしているなどユニークな独創性を持ち合わせいます。

業界で活躍するプロのデザイナーの数は、2,500 人以上。これは、エストニア国民の 525 人に 1 人 がデザイナーであるという驚くべき数字です。豊かな伝統と最新のテクノロジー、環境への配慮の バランスを見ながら拡張するエストニアのデザインは、公共サービス開発において特に大きな成果 を挙げています。
05. 歴史を重ね、進化する街並み。
美しい中世の街並みを現代へと残す首都タリンの旧市街は、1997 年にはユネスコの世界遺産にも 登録。この歴史的建造物と共存するように建てられた現代建築こそ、いまエストニアを体現するも のです。プレハブ販売会社、Kodasema が開発した「KODA」シリーズは、エストニアの革新性を 象徴するプロダクトとして、世界から注目を集めています。

トニアのデザインとライフスタイルイベントには、エストニアのデザイナー、メーカー、デザイン をリードする企業が参加。若手を含めた、国内外で活躍する気鋭のメンバーを紹介します。
エストニア・デザイナーズ協会（EAD）は、エストニア政府開発財団 (Enterprise Estonia )、エス
トニア文化省とタッグを組み、現代のエストニアデザインとその世界観を国外に向けて認知を広め るプロジェクトを発足。伝統技術と最新のテクノロジー＆ソリューションの組み合わせに挑むプロ ジェクトを世界に向けて発信しています。
国外での展示会を通じて文化交流を促進するとともに、急速に発展するデザインの国・エストニア
の成果を伝えていくよう努めています。その活動を通じ、エストニアのプロダクトデザイナーや企 業に国際的な舞台に進出する機会を提供しています。
コレクションには、テキスタイル、ファニチャー、照明、陶磁器、ガラス製品はもとより、バッグ、 シューズ、ジュエリー、ギフトアイテムといったファッションアクセサリーまで幅広く含まれてお り、そこにはミニマル、自然素材、サスティナブル、独創的なソリューション、ユーモアなど、多 様なテーマが盛り込まれています。
2014 年、EAD は文化交流とエストニアデザインの輸出を目的に、「Size Doesn't Matter ( サイズは
関係ない )」というスローガンを掲げました。小さなエストニアの国土と多くの優れたデザイナー
による豊富な成果とのコントラストをイメージしたこのスローガンは、ベルギー、オーストリア、 スウェーデン、イギリス、フランス、イタリア、アメリカなどでの展示会で発表されました。
ここ日本においては、同スローガンに加え、エストニアの純粋でプリミティブな一面を取り入れ、
「EHE Estonia born from nature」* と題した展示会を開催します。この活動が日本でのビジネスの
出合いに役立ち、エストニアが独自のユニークな才能をもつ創造的な国として広く認知されること を願っております。

More than 30 Estonian designer-makers and design lead companies will be represented at the Interior Lifestyle Living Fair in Tokyo in 2019 as well as during Estonian Design and Lifestyle events in Yokohama. Participants of those events will include established names as well as promising young artists who are gaining recognition both in Estonia and abroad. In cooperation with Enterprise Estonia and the Ministry of Culture, the Estonian Association of Designers (EAD) has initiated a project to introduce Estonian design to foreign countries and present a cross-section of the contemporary design world in Estonia. The exhibits include advanced industrial products and demonstrate the successful combination of a rich visual heritage with the very latest technologies and solutions. The EAD strives to boost cultural exchanges and present the achievements of Estonia as a rapidly developing design country through foreign exhibitions. In doing so, the association creates networking opportunities for Estonian product designers and production companies who want to reach the international arena. The collection includes products related to home furnishing: textiles, furniture, lighting, ceramics, glass and fashion accessories including bags, shoes, jewellery and gift items. The crisp collection is characterized by minimalist style, natural materials, sustainability, ingenious solutions and humour. In 2014, the EAD created a concept titled “Size Doesn’t Matter” for the purposes of cultural exchange and export of Estonian design; the concept highlights the contrast of the small size of Estonia with the density of designers and the abundance of their achievements. The concept has been presented as an exhibition in Belgium, Austria, Sweden, UK, France, Italy, the USA and beyond. The concept is adapted to suit different geographical areas. For the Japanese market, the concept is called Ehe Estonia. It was created in collaboration with Japanese PR experts. Hopefully, the campaign will aid with business matchmaking and will make Estonia known as a creative country with unique flair of its own.

AEGAON（アエガオン）は、 デザイナーのJanno Roodi（ ヤンノ・ローディ）が2012年に創設したエストニア初の 時計メーカー。 タイムレスなデザインと卓越した職人 技よる品質が高い評価を受けていますが、 その背後に あるのは急速に移り変わるトレンドやファッション産 業が環境へ及ぼす影響に対抗できるものづくりに挑 戦しています。 ブランド名のAEGAONは、“ゆっくりと、 慌てずに”という意味のエストニア語「aega on」に由来 するもの。 2019年には、 エストニア大統領から賛辞を賜 り、Creditinfo Estonia（エストニアの信用情報機関） からは、最高ランクのAA評価を受けるなど、 エストニア政 府機関との信頼関係を築いてきました。 今日、AEGAON は、優れた設計によるハイブリッドウォッチを提供する 世界初の時計ブランドへと成長を遂げつつあります。

AEGAON has been recognised by the president of Estonia and received an AA credit rating from Creditinfo Estonia. AEGAON is also one of the latest members of The Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ABOUT THE PRODUCTS The stainless steel “Peacemaker 53” skeleton watch is a modified version of “Peacemaker 65”, designed especially for sizeable men with lots of character. Established in 1990, Balteco has grown to become one of the leading producers of bathroom products in Northern Europe. It was created with a conceivably impossible objective to design a bath with ample interior space but truly modest outer measurements. The stone bath is also available with coloured panel. Designed by Aivar Habakukk, Neo basin’s slim upper edges with elegant exterior shapes create modern light look. Established in 2016, the JALG studio combines synergistic visions and experiences from two different designers, Veiko Kallas and Argo Männiste. Veiko Kallas’ experience in the field of wood furniture and photography and Argo Männiste’s product design competencies found its way into the creation of a retro-looking but modern TV stand. All products are handmade out of precious wood. ABOUT THE PRODUCTS The creative process guided JALG to their first product - minimalist TV stand JALG. The piece is mostly inspired by mid-century TV stands. It combines successfully two eras, at the same time staying innovative and sheer. Classic Collection features simple tones of birch wood with a glossy finish. Modern Collection uses oak wood and natural oil wax finish. Hairpin Collection pins are modeled closely after the originals created by Henry P. Glass, in the 1940s. Powder coat protects the legs from rust.

「詩を形で表せば、ジュエリーになる」 と語る、 デザイナーのTõnis Malkov（ トニス・マルコヴ）は、個展「Sometimes I would like to create jewellery for people」をきっかけに、自身のブランド 「JEWELLERY FOR PEOPLE」を設立。 希少な素材を用いながら、自身の手で緻密な作品づくりを続けています。
「ウェイトブランケット」は、不安や睡眠障害を軽減するため に設計したもの。 近年の医学研究においても、加圧が快適で 深い睡眠へと導く効果をもたらすことが証明されています。 ブランケットの重みは、幸福感と睡眠に作用するセトロニンや メラトニンを生成し、 ストレスの原因となるコルチゾールのレベ ルを低下させる効果があります。 これにより、使うだけで心身と もにリラックスし、 より早く、深い睡眠へと導かれるのです。

Medical studies have connected the benefits of deep pressure stimulation to weighted blankets explaining their positive effects on sleep which increases the production of happiness and sleep hormones (serotonin & melatonin) and stress (cortisol) levels to drop. The brand started out from a personal exhibition called “Sometimes I would like to create jewellery for people” and focuses on miniature characters made of precious materials. Kadi Veesaar is an artist who creates contemporary yet elegant jewellery for people who value quality, craftsmanship, uniqueness and conscious consumption. She doesn’t frame herself with the trends or fast-fashion. Although the artist loves experimenting with different materials, there is always metal in her jewellery. Not only silver but also copper, brass, different alloys, and platings. Technological challenges are what give flame to her inner fire and keep her drawer of inspiration full. The story of KILLUD design started out with a broken car window. Designer Angela Orgusaar saw the unique beauty in the fractured glass glittering in the sunshine. The fragments are the pieces of luck and fortune (Estonian proverb: “killud toovad õnne”). Angela started as a graphic designer but after looking for deeper challenges she got involved in interior architecture. Design and creation of jewellery has become her additional hobby over the past few years.

Radis cares about the environment and avoids production waste creation. The design language is modest, taking into account compact living. In their collection, there are multifunctional shelves, sideboards, tables, and beds. Most of the products are handmade. Every piece of furniture is assembled according to the client’s wish. Radis furniture personalises homes and offices with natural compact living.
Reet Aus is a PhD-qualified fashion designer and environmental activist, a human rebel who founded REET AUS COLLECTION® and THE UPSHIRT®. She is a pioneer in the field of industrial upcycling for fashion and has developed the UPMADE® certification in order to pass on her knowledge to brands and factories. Reet Aus dedicated to slow and ethical fashion. Her industrial upcycled collection is entirely made from production leftovers. Softrend, an Estonian furniture producer, has partnered with the Designer Partners from Iseasi. Iseasi team already had successful careers in design before joining forces in January 2010. Their experiences include work in the area of electronics, medical devices, machinery, furniture as well as interior architecture and graphic design. Apart from product development skills they hold competence in design management and consulting overall use of design in business development. They have experience in the international market with companies such as Martela, Finlux, Paulig, Nils Holger Moormann and now with Softrend.
Once there was a need for a round shelf in the house, so Jana - the designer and founder of Talken Design - tried to make one of her own. Spurred on by an excellent mentor, the work took time but she eventually succeeded. Some details were added and that’s how PIGGY was born. She founded a small company and named it Talken Design, where Talken holds the meaning of ‘told and seen’. Jana found her true calling – plywood and rounded forms.

The sound-absorbing sofa is designed by Pent Talvet from Iseasi. The August series of sofas with sound-absorbing qualities was created specifically for open-plan working environments. The sofas allow you to create freestanding private islands of different shapes and sizes where you can hold mini-meetings. The functional nature of August has been packaged in a compact, modest form that is designed to fit in with any interior.
The PIGGY shelf is made out of birch plywood and finished with waterborne stain and environmentally friendly wood oil or lacquer. The shelf is 100% handcrafted. The designer likes to fit leather and plywood together. The shelf is named PIGGY because it reminded Jana of a little piggy when she was attaching legs to it. The products are eye-catching and fit in various interiors like offices, apartments, public hallways, etc.

TOKU brand was created in 2017 to meet the needs of a modern consumer – someone who highly values comfort, sustainability, handcraft, and design. Since then, Piibe Tomp has been in the forefront of the brand, winning the prestigious Estonian Young Designer of the Year (2018) and taking TOKU to the next level of her homeland’s design world. TOKU branding has won several national awards as well. Within one year, TOKU started its exporting activities in Europe and opened its web store for the rest of the world. ABOUT THE PRODUCTS TOKU slippers have ergonomic insoles and are doubled up on natural felt that has thermos regulating qualities. WOH designs furniture and accessories intended to strike a balance between functionality, pure Nordic aesthetics, and sustainability. Embracing traditional handcraft techniques alongside with unconventional solutions give the minimalist designs a homely feeling of warmth. All WOH products are designed and produced in Estonia and with the intention to last. Margot Vaaderpass’ garment design is lead by the desire of finding more environmentally friendly ways of navigating the fashion system. Her first collection uses environmentally sound materials from natural sources. PRODUCTS The WOH Felt Storage Stool is a storage space from wooden cover and oak texture. It consists of up to 70% of recycled plastics and can also be used as a stool or a small table. Non-slippery WOH Felt hangers are especially well suited for knitwear and heavy garments are made out of PET plastic bottles.

The trademark Estonian Design House, which was created by Estonian Association of Designers (EAD) in 2010, represents more than 100 remarkable Estonian product designers ranging from interior accessories to fashion. The aim was to make Estonian design more visible, give designers trading channels and help to export, it initiates product development processes where the designers and entrepreneurs get together. Estonian design expositions have been installed in 16 countries. ESTONIAN DESIGN HOUSE has an online-shop and also a shop in the city (Solaris Shopping Centre) and at Koda Park, at the harbour, where EAD and Tallinn Design festival (DISAINIÖÖ) office is situated.

Bold Tuesday is a brand for travel-minded people. The goal is to remind people WHY we love to travel so much. Founders and designers Kairi and Markus have created a business of designing maps, posters, and other travel-related items in a minimalist Scandinavian style. “LIST OF COUNTRIES” WORLD MAP is a detailed world map featuring all the 196 countries of the world from the biggest to smallest.
A trademark of wooden spectacles by Karl Annus, Framed by Karl is a combination of a significant appreciation of the material, great craftsmanship and simple forms. The design of the frames aims to be timeless rather than to follow seasonal trends. Annus chooses the material according to his sustainabilityoriented world view, using natural precious woods for crafting the frames. In order to keep the pure aesthetics of the material, it is not coloured or toned.

Kerttu Laane（ケルトゥ・ラーネ）は、 エストニアの民族芸術に再注目し、 それを現代へと蘇らせているデザイナーです。 伝統的なリボンのテキスタイ ルをスツールの座面に取り入れた 「KIRIKERGO」は、 まさに彼女の思いを機 能的な形で表したもの。 座面の下には、雑誌などが収納できる小さなスペー スが用意されており、 すべてハンドメイドで作られています。 椅子のネーミン グは、古いエストニア語で 「模様」を意味する“KIRI”と、方言で 「椅子」を意味す る“KERGO”を掛け合わせたもの。 木部にはバーチ材を使用しています。
「Elmet Treier（エルメト・トレイエル） 」 は、 主に木材を扱うプロダクトデザイナーです。 家具の製造過程で生まれた廃材を有効利用した製品づくりを行なっています。 「RAY」は、 ヒレを羽のように動かしながら泳ぐエイをイメージしながらデザインし た椅子。 両脇に立ち上がるシートは、座面と肘掛けを一体化することで使用部材を 最小限に抑えつつ、体をしっかりとサポートしつつ、堅牢さも兼ね備えています。 Elmet Treier is a furniture and product designer who loves to experiment with wood. The products are made from timber remnants from the furniture industry.
Chair RAY
Elmet Treier designed RAY by drawing inspiration from a fish who waves its “wings” to cut through the water. The chair actually does look like a ray. With its sides bent upwards, it’s very comfortable and sturdy for sitting. Minimal amounts of material were used for making it, though its plywood and round bar together make for very strong and durable construction. Material: 12 mm plywood and 10 mm round bar.

Mariana Laan（マリア・ラーン）は、 エストニア芸術大学を卒業後、Nüüd Ceramics を設立。 北欧らしい新鮮でミニマルなデザインを軸に、数量限定でハンドメイドのテ ーブルウェアやホームアクセサリーを製作しています。 磁器をはじめ、 コンクリート やガラスなど、多様な素材を組み合わせた作品づくりにチャレンジしています。
デザイナーであり、発明家でもあるJaanus Orgusaar（ヤーヌス・オルグサール） は、自らの直接体験や自然の法則に基づく、素直な創作を行なっています。 「COMB」は、印象的な見た目のフラットパック式本棚。 まるで天体のよ うに壁から浮き出る形は、 どことなく近未来的様相もはらんでいます。 見た目の特徴だけでなく、実際に使い勝手もよく、 フィルムコーティングさ れたプライウッドは掃除も簡単。 十分な強度を維持しつつ、素材の厚みをミ リ単位で調整することにより、使用素材を最小限まで削減しています。
Mariana Laan is a ceramic designer who graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts and is a founder of Nüüd Ceramics. Nordic freshness and minimalism are represented in the limited-edition handcrafted tableware and furnishings. Mariana’s work has been featured in several Scandinavian leading design magazines and has been selected to represent the contemporary design of Estonian ceramics at the Paris Design Week and in the ARTEK Gallery in Helsinki.
Jaanus Orgusaar is an inventor and designer who dives straight to the primal source: his work is inspired by nature’s geometry, making his objects clearly distinguishable. The bookshelf COMB is a flat-pack product, easy to put together and visually attractive. It bulges from the wall like a sector of a sphere, creating a sci-fi effect in the room. Besides being a real eye-catcher, it is also practical and the film-coated plywood is easy to clean. Despite its large dimensions, Orgusaar was able to reduce the material thickness down to just a few millimeters, while still ensuring a sturdy and strong structure. Material: waterproof CNC-cut plywood.

Kerttu Laane is a designer who likes to connect traditional and modern – to keep alive and remember Estonian folk art and to develop it further. She does it through functional things. The idea to braid Estonian protective and magical belt patterns into a seat has been realised in KIRIKERGOs. These handmade stools are decorative and practical. Due to its original design, there is a small storage space under the seat where you can hold magazines or the like.

Maria Rästa（マリア・ラスタ）のクリアでミニマルながら、遊び心に 溢れたデザインは、見るものの気持ちを明るくポジティブにして くれます。 ヒヨコがモチーフとなった三本脚スツール「Chick」は、 最小限の材料で簡単に組み立てられるように、可能な限り構造を 単純化したもの。 デザイナーは当初ミニマルで幾何学的なフォル ムを目指していましたが、少しだけクセをつけてみようと、脚をく ちばしに見立てたデザインに展開しました。 子供の頃の思い出を 想起させるような、思わず笑みがこぼれてしまう、温かみのある製 品です。 ナチュラル、 ブラック、 ホワイトの３色で展開しています。
Maria Rästa studied furniture design at Tartu Art College and product and interior design at the Kuopio Design Academy. She has won several local design prizes. Stool CHICK is one of the most known pieces of Maria’s creation. She was enthusiastic about minimalism when she created the stool. Her first sketches were very geometric and simple. However, Maria’s tutor advised her to produce something “weird”. For fun, she added a beak and paws to the shape. Chick makes people smile and maybe even reminds them of something fun from their childhood.
Toivo Raidmets（トイヴォ・ライドメツ）は、1970年代に家具デザイナーとし てのキャリアをスタート。 80年代より家具のカスタムおよびオーダーメイドを 始めました。 自身のブランド 「Taivo」を立ち上げて以来は家具だけに捉われ ず、 インダストリアルデザインの世界でどんどん活躍の場を広げています。
Toivo Raidmets graduated from the Department of Space and Furniture Design of the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR in 1982. His relationship with the furniture industry began at the Standard Furniture Factory even before the institute and continued as the Chief Designer at the Tarmeko Design Factory in Tartu after school. These days, he has returned to industrial design, founding his own company Toivo. A stool with three legs: as simple construction as possible, made out of the smallest amount of materials, for self-assembly, packaged in a flat box. Available in natural, black or white.

エストニア芸術大学のほか、 ドイツとデンマークと陶磁器とプロダク トデザインを学んだRaili Keiv（ライリ・ケイヴ）。 1955年から1970年 頃のタリンで見られた、 コンクリートを多用したカフェの内装から 着想を得て、新しいテーブルウェアの可能性を模索しています。
Porcelain meets wood
Raili Keiv studied ceramics and product design in Estonian Academy of Arts, Germany, and Denmark. The materials she uses are both the substance of inspiration for her design. The perfectibility and possibilities of porcelain have been Raili’s subject for many years. She has been experimenting with the boundaries of porcelain. Raili Keiv is exceptionally steady when moving towards a goal. Keiv’s creative inspiration for combining concrete and china came from café interiors of Tallinn from 1955–1970, the aesthetics of which were based on using a lot of concrete.
The modern plywood briefcase is named “Alexander” in honour of the founder of the Luther Factory – Alexander Martin Luther. Inspiration for the briefcase came from an old travel suitcase, which was produced in great quantities in the 1920s and 30s by the legendary Estonian plywood manufacturer Luterma. Stella Soomlais studio makes leather bags and accessories. In addition to cool and long-lasting design, the company has put circular economy principles into good practice thereby becoming a pioneer in making the use of leather more sustainable and responsible. All bags are made of vegetable tanned leather of European origin that ages beautifully. The creation is handmade at the Stella Soomlais studio in Tallinn, Estonia.

Lüüs is a jewellery and blacksmithing teacher at the Estonian Academy of Arts. He creates weird industrial ambient music, is inspired by underground subcultures and combines music, sculpture, theatre, jewellery and video into one big breathing organism. Upcycled brooch series „Autumn Ball“ and „X“ are cut out by jewellery artist and designer Urmas Lüüs from old enamelled pots produced in the Soviet Union. Each handcrafted brooch is unique.

Emma Leppermann is a community, a trademark, a studio, and a shop. The Emma Leppermann trademark was created in 2009 by good friends textile artists Merle Suurkask, and Liisa Kallam. Textile artists create intriguing and unique materials which are, in cooperation with Estonian companies, used for making original products in small numbers; mainly accessories, such as hats, scarves, bags, etc. The artists are inspired by genuine stories, nature, and nice people.
